Disney Provides New Details About Coco Attraction at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event

Anyone who has visited Disney California Adventure recently has been able to tell there are a lot of changes coming to the park. This is especially true in Avengers Campus and the Pixar Pier/Paradise Gardens areas. In the back corner of the park, adjacent to Pixar Pier, is where the upcoming Coco attraction will be found. During Horizons: A Carousel of Progress, new details were revealed about this attraction.

Ali Rubinstein (Senior Vice President, Global Creative & Development Studios) and Emily O’Brien (Portfolio Executive Creative Producer, Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort) joined Horizons: A Carousel of Progress host Neil Patrick Harris on the stage to discuss the new attraction. Everything that was shown indicates that this will be a beautiful, family-friendly attraction that will be treasured by guests for years to come.

The Experience

The Imagineers shared that when guests experience this Coco attraction, they will get to remember Miguel’s unforgettable trip to the Land of the Dead. Along the way, they will see some favorite friends including Miguel, Dante, Héctor, and others.

The storyline will see fans getting on the attraction a year after the events of the original film. The queue, which starts in Pixar Pier next to Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, will welcome guests to a “casa museo” that is dedicated to the music of Miguel’s great-great-grandfather, Héctor Rivera.

There, guests will board a boat and travel with Miguel through his memories of the Land of the Dead. This will be a beautiful and moving experience. It will also be full of some fun surprises as it leans heavily into the music and emotion of this beautiful Pixar film. It will also invite guests to live Miguel’s journey along with their own friends and family.

One of the best parts of this new attraction for Disney California Adventure is that the whole family will be able to ride it together. There will be no height requirement.
