San Diego Comic-Con always has a lot of exciting news coming out of it. It might be a bit surprising to some that some of the most exciting news has come from a museum. That is, until it is revealed that this is the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. This museum, which was founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, will be opening to the public on September 22, 2026. Tickets are on sale now at LucasMuseum.org. At a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Seth Green revealed that Star Wars: Detours will be among the programs shown in the theaters at the museum.
The announcement was made during the Inside the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art panel at San Diego Comic-Con. This conversation was hosted by Keke Palmer and included Green, his partner in Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, Matt Senreich; Jim Lee, president and chief creative officer of DC Comics; and Ryan Linkof, senior curator and head of film programs for the Lucas Museum.
Apparently, Green wasn’t entirely sure he was supposed to be sharing the news about Star Wars: Detours. When Palmer asked Green, “Is your work included in the museum?” He looked over at Linkoff with a sheepish look before being given the go-ahead to share the news.
“We made a show with George, an animated series,” Green said. “He wanted to make Simpsons in the Star Wars universe. It’s called Detours, and there’s… going to be a curation of episodes from that show on display for the public.”
Green shared his enthusiasm about the project during the panel, saying, “It was the greatest. It was literally one of the greatest experiences I think I’ve ever had.”
Star Wars: Detours has been a project that Star Wars fans have wondered about for many years. Clips were shown at Star Wars Celebration in 2012 when the project was officially announced. After the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, the project was shelved. This is a parody of Star Wars that takes place between the events of the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. In total, 39 episodes were produced but not released. 62 scripts were ready for production.
Detours has an incredible voice cast. This includes: Dee Bradley Baker Abraham Benrubi, Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Felicia Day, Donald Faison, Nat Faxon, Seth Green as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jennifer Hale, Zachary Levi, Joel McHale, Breckin Meyer, Dan Milano, Andy Richter as Zuckuss, Cree Summer, Catherine Taber as Princess Leia, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, “Weird Al” Yankovic as 4-LOM, Grey DeLisle, and Seth MacFarlane as Emperor Palpatine. Yankovic shared in a 2022 article with /Film that he and other cast members had recorded original songs for the series that would have been part of the cancelled third season, which would have included a musical episode.
With the opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, fans will be able to see curated episodes for the experience. While it won’t be the entire run of the series, this shows that anything is possible for Star Wars: Detours. Who knows what the future could bring!
The panel with the Star Wars: Detours news also included details about the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Film Program, with documentaries and experimental films being shown in two theaters at the museum.
