Walls have gone up, and it appears the Pixar Pier gate is being torn down at the future home for the Coco attraction at Disney California Adventure. The newest update comes as fans have been watching things change on the other side of that gate in recent months. This has seen the area cleared and a new road installed. Ultimately, this area will be the home for a new water attraction with guests riding boats as they experience the story of Disney and Pixar’s Coco.
This morning, a friend of Daps Magic Spencer stopped by Disney California Adventure and discovered Coco-themed walls had been installed around the future home of the attraction overnight. Below is a video and photos of what the location looks like as of Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Things may change (even if just more graphics added to the walls) in the near future. The walls block off the area where the Pixar Pier gate used to be, some of the nearby seating, and a vendor stand that sold cold drinks and novelties.

Here is a look at this area before the walls went up. These photos were taken a few weeks ago:

The Coco attraction was originally announced at the 2024 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. “We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way,” Josh D’Amaro shared. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.” The concept of the attraction is that guests will join Miguel to go on a journey to the land of the dead.
Guests will be going on this ride aboard a boat of some kind. Disney has shared that the attraction will draw inspiration from the Haunted Mansion and also Pirates of the Caribbean. The concept art that was shared for the attraction showed guests floating through the land of the dead aboard a boat that looked very similar to those that guests cruise aboard on Pirates of the Caribbean or it’s a small world. The concept art also shows some favorite characters from Coco. This will be a musical attraction that brings the music heard in the movie into the ride in Disney California Adventure.
This is the moment that this attraction was revealed:
An opening timeline for the Coco attraction has not been released at this point. What has been released is concept art. It can be seen below. The concept art appears to show the attraction’s entrance. Looking closely, the Incredicoaster can also be seen to the left. This appears to be the entrance for this new attraction, where parades currently step out at the end of the route. If accurate, the route for the parade would most likely be altered.
The Coco attraction will be the newest arrival of Miguel and other characters at the Disneyland Resort in recent years. For Plaza de la Familia, A Musical Celebration of Coco was a popular entertainment offering.
Ultimately, A Musical Celebration of Coco was replaced by The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate The Musical World of Coco.
During Oogie Boogie Bash, Ernesto de la Cruz has become a popular character for fans to visit on one of the treat trails.
There is a lot to look forward to with the arrival of the Coco attraction. The walls going up are one of the first public-facing indicators of progress for this attraction. What do you think about this milestone in this process? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
