The Devil Wears Prada 2

Opening Night Fan Screenings In Two Theaters For ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Offer Guests Red Carpet Surprises

Special Thursday night screenings of The Devil Wears Prada 2 were offered at the AMC Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, and the Regal Spectrum Center in Irvine, California. Guests who purchased tickets through D23 Gold Member events were treated to complimentary popcorn, soft drinks, and red carpet surprises. We caught the early screening in Irvine.

Guests arriving early for the 7:30 screening in Irvine found a pop-up vending machine set up by the entrance. The large touch screen offered solutions for such “fashion emergencies” as “Runway Strut Gone Wrong,” “Priestly-Level Crisis,” or “It’s A Tough Call.”

Once a choice had been made, A “Runway Ready Gift” was dispensed for the lucky prize winner!

Among the gifts offered were Devil Wears Prada 2 branded fashion accessories, copies of Runway magazine, and a limited number of “Glam Tickets,” whose lucky winners were given a free makeover. The magazine featured Emily Charlton (played by Emily Blunt in the film) on the cover. The cover, as well as several of the articles in the film, specifically referenced plot points in the new film.

The pop-up vending machine is scheduled to be in operation on opening day (May 1) between 11 am and 8 pm. Lines are likely to be long, so give yourself time before your screening if you plan to experience this.

Inside the lobby, the usual large displays were joined by a Notice of Filming/Recording for the night’s activities.

One of the displays put guests right on the red carpet, alongside stars of the film, lined up in front of an iconic step-and-repeat screen. Before our screening, a photographer was on hand to take a shot and offer you a printed image on the spot.

We chose the Regal screening room that showed the film in ScreenX. This technology extends the film to the walls to the left and right of the screen. Audiences in ScreenX are surrounded by cityscapes, forests, and interiors. If you ever wondered, Miranda Priestly has another lamp on the left-hand side of her office!

The film itself is a reunion of sorts for fans of the 2006 original. Twenty years may have passed, but events conspire to bring them together again in a plot that mirrors the original, while offering a few new twists.

SPOILER ALERT: This section contains plot elements for the new film.

The Devil Wears Prada 2

There are Easter Eggs for the original film, starting during the opening credits. A cerulean blue carpet is rolled out for a show themed to Spring Florals (if you know, you know). That infamous cerulean blue sweater itself turns up, at the end of the film, albeit with the sleeves cut off.

There is also an unexpected cameo appearance that caught our audience by surprise. (Really, this is your last SPOILER ALERT). Many are aware that Lady Gaga provided three musical numbers for the film. But she also appears in a scene with Meryl Streep as Amanda Priestly, and performs one of the numbers in a glittering, glamorous fashion show in Milan.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 officially opens on Friday, May 1. Daps Magic’s full coverage and review of the film will follow.
