On this day in 1975, the Mission to Mars attraction debuted at Disneyland. It replaced Flight to the Moon, originally Rocket to the Moon, which became outdated after the moon landing occurred. Mission to Mars was developed with NASA and simulated a trip to the red planet. Guests entered Mission Control, a pre-show complete with an Audio-Animatronic host, Mr. Johnson. The “rocket” experience was a circular theater with screens on the floor and ceiling. [50 years ago in 2025]
