On this day in 2013, ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ was released in theaters. The film is set in 1961 and chronicles the sometimes difficult process of turning author P. L. Travers’ book ‘Mary Poppins’ into a movie. The major players are Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Dame Emma Thompson as P. L. Travers. Parts of the film were shot in Disneyland on November 6 & 7, 2012, including Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, and the Astro Orbiter. Cast Members were hired to be extras!
