Ever since its inception in 1964, the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has been supported by the Disneyland Resort. This has been done through the support of its leaders, Disney VoluntEARS, financially, and also through a healthy dose of Disney magic. These contributions help CHOC continue to be a place that doesn’t just provide medical care, but personal care and support as well. This was very true recently when the Disneyland Resort partnered with the Starlight Children’s Foundation to bring Halloween to some of the patients at CHOC.
The Halloween event included multiple activities for young patients and their families to enjoy. It also included a surprise visit by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Mickey and Minnie were also wearing their new Halloween costumes that they can be seen wearing at Disneyland for this year’s Halloween Time celebration.
Throughout the event, children were invited to choose from different Halloween costumes to wear. Kids were able to get into the full Halloween spirit with costumes that ranged from superheroes to Disney princesses! There were also special giveaways and activities with Disney VoluntEARS for patients and their families. There were plush toys, games, books, toys, coloring sheets, and more for children to enjoy and be given!
For many of the patients who were unable to attend the party, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse stopped by to visit them in their rooms. Along with the visit, these patients received special treats and perhaps more importantly, made magical and happy memories.
This event is part of a bigger collaboration between Disney and Starlight Children’s Foundation this Halloween. The collaboration includes the gifting of thousands of Halloween costumes, books, and toys to 450 children’s hospitals and pediatric places of care around the country. This is to bring joy to the children in these hospitals who aren’t able to go trick-or-treating this Halloween. This also kicks off Disney Experiences’ Season of Giving, which will continue through the end of the year.
CHOC is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary. The Disneyland Resort continues to support this incredible organization through a variety of ways. This includes the annual CHOC Walk in the Park fundraiser. To date, this event has raised over $45 million for healthcare programs and research throughout its 32-year history. The Disneyland Resort also brought Turtle Talk with Crush, the interactive show at Disney California Adventure, to the CHOC Hospital lobby. Disney VoluntEARS also continue to commit countless hours as they continue to dedicate their efforts to creating moments of joy for patients and families at CHOC.
