What’s Coming to the Disneyland Resort? – Horizons: D23 Disney Experiences Showcase Recap

Tonight, over 10,000 guests flocked to the Honda Center to hear some of the most exciting announcements that Disney Experiences could provide. While guests come from around the world for this event, many fans call the Disneyland Resort their home park and want to see what new things will come in the next decade. Last night, we received an exciting lineup of plans for the Disneyland Resort that we will be sharing with you!

Avatar at Disneyland Resort

In one of the first major announcements of the evening, Josh D’Amaro shared that the Disneyland Resort would be receiving its very own Avatar Experience! While this experience has been teased for some time, we did not know the details of where the land would reside. Today, we found out that the experience will be heading to Disney California Adventure Park to delight guests with a new attraction! The experience will draw inspiration from Avatar: The Way of Water and immerse guests visiting the California Resort in the otherworldly experience of Avatar. At this time, we do not know where the experience will be located within Disney California Adventure Park.

Coco Attraction at Disney California Adventure

In 2026, construction will begin on a new Coco attraction in Disney California Adventure Park. The attraction will take guests into the Land of the Dead with Miguel for the first-ever attraction based on Disney-Pixar’s Coco. Again, we do not know exactly where in the park this attraction will go but it is sure to be incredible!

Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic

In 2025, Disneyland Park will be debuting the first-ever audio-animatronic of Walt Disney himself! The Main Street Opera House will be hosting the new attraction “Walt Disney: A Magical Life”. This will be the first time we have ever seen an attraction based on Walt Disney and the animatronic will use new technology to make it one of the most fluid and lifelike audio-animatronics we have ever seen! After the debut of this attraction, the show will rotate with the already existing “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.”

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Opening Date

This holiday season, get ready for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! Opening November 15, 2024, this rethemed classic attraction will bring us “down the bayou” into a magical world where music is the special ingredient! Not only did we get an opening date for the attraction, we also learned that Critter Country will be renamed to Bayou Country to celebrate this new attraction. We can’t wait to see what magic will be in store for us at Disneyland Park later this year!

Avengers Campus Expansion

In one of the largest Disneyland Resort announcements of the night, Josh D’Amaro (with a little help from Deadpool) announced that Avenger’s Campus in Disney California Adventure Park would be doubling in size with the addition of two more attractions! Construction on these projects will begin next year to make way for the expansion. In “Avengers Infinity Defense” you will join the Avengers to defeat King Thanos after he has stolen important technology to jump between worlds. Guests will travel to many iconic places from the MCU, like Wakanda or Asgard, to help save the city (see what I did there?)

After you help save the galaxy from King Thanos, guests can accept the newest mission from Tony Stark to help test new Avengers technology! A robot arm will move your ride vehicle through a simulated test flight while you are joined by the voices of some of your favorite Avengers. While we know Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to reprise his role as Tony Stark, it was teased to guests at the Experiences panel that there would be even more surprises in store!

Mandalorian and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run

When the new film, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” hits theaters in 2026, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be getting a very exciting addition! Dave Filoni announced to guests that we would be getting an all-new mission on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. Guests will now be flying alongside the Mandalorian and Grogu with the help of Epic’s Unreal Engine. I cannot wait for this attraction and to get more Mando representation in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. 2026 cannot come soon enough!

Overall, I am so excited for all the love the Disneyland Resort was shown in the Disney Experiences panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. In the next ten years, we have so much excitement and transformation to look forward to, it is sure to launch us into an exciting new era of the Disneyland Resort.

What are you most excited to see from all these announcements? Personally, I think I am the most excited about the new Coco attraction in Disney California Adventure Park! Be sure to let us know what you’re excited about in the comments!
