The Pearly Band is a wonderful musical group that is found on most days around Fantasyland at Disneyland. Themed to the band that performs Supercalifragilisticexpealadocious in Mary Poppins, this band can be found performing inside Fantasyland, near it’s a small world, and even in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle! This band is generally made up of two trumpets, a saxophone, trombone, tuba, and drummer. Their performances do include Disney music, but they also can include other music. For example, recently they were heard playing music from My Fair Lady. They also often end up performing with some Disney characters. Sometimes this is intentional, other times it is just a magical moment!
One example of a magical moment was from about a week ago. While watching the Pearly Band in Fantasyland just behind Sleeping Beauty Castle, Mary Poppins and Bert showed up. Guests were treated to some unscripted Disney magic as the duo danced around to the music of the band.
For those wanting to a chance at seeing the Pearly Band with Mary Poppins and Bert, there is also a fun moment that happens in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. This involves some favorite songs and moments from the classic Disney film. It is really quite charming and definitely worth checking out at some point.
Another character that occasionally appears with the Pearly Band is Peter Pan. This will generally happen during one of their Fantasyland sets as well. Here is video of Peter Pan flying in to play during a performance of the Pearly Band.
While in the mornings, the Pearly Band usually plan in Fantasyland or in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, in the afternoon the band can be found near it’s a small world. They play up on the second level of the Small World mall area. In this location, they also see Disney characters show up as well. This could include Moana on one day or Aladdin on another. The characters will often interact with guests, dance, or just add an extra dose of pixie dust to the band’s performance.
