On this day in 1969, the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland hosted a grand opening to the public. In the early morning, the press took part in a midnight sneak preview event. Although guests were admitted to the attraction for soft openings starting on August 9 and 10, the official opening day was Tuesday the 12th. To celebrate the event, “I Scream” Sundaes were sold at Carnation Plaza–a preview of the promotional food tie-ins that have become common today. [55 years ago in 2024]
