D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event begins Friday, August 9 with events at the Anaheim Convention Center and the Honda Center. To begin this exciting week of all things Disney, the first-ever D23 Day was held at Angel Stadium. The Angels took on the New York Mets. The first 23,000 fans in attendance received a limited edition D23 Mickey Mouse Bobblehead. Prior to the game, fans with special D23 tickets were able to enjoy music, trivia, games, and special photo ops. Guests could even pick up special Disney Lorcana trading cards and a special D23 Day postcard set featuring Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse during the early days of Angel Stadium.
Near the Diamond Club and Home Plate Gate of Angel Stadium, there was a special exhibit which featured memorabilia and artifacts from the 1994 Disney movie Angels in the Outfield. Angels in the Outfield was a remake of the 1951 film of the same name. Foster kid Roger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) loves the Anaheim Angels, even though they’re the worst team in the major leagues. His estranged dad promises to reunite the family if the Angels make it to the World Series, so Roger decides to ask for some divine help and prays that his favorite team will turn things around. Soon, a real angel named Al (Christopher Lloyd) shows up in response to Roger’s prayers, and Anaheim’s hopeless coach (Danny Glover) is shocked to see his team on a winning streak. The movie was released on July 15, 1994, a month before the 1994-95 Major League Baseball Strike.
Prior to the game, Mickey Mouse along with two Cast Member brothers and veterans were honored during the honorary first pitch. During the game, fans were welcomed to the first-ever D23 Day at Angel Stadium.
Overall, it was a fun afternoon at the Angels game with the Angels winning the game over the Mets 3-2! Angel fans left the game happy, and many fans left the game with their Mickey Mouse bobblehead in hand.
