San Diego Comic-Con was a good place for Star Trek news this year. During a panel in Hall-H, there was plenty of news that was revealed about the future of the franchise. This included news about the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Series cast members Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, and Jerry O’Connell were alongside executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Mike McMahan for a panel about Lower Decks.
During the panel, it was announced that the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will be arriving on Paramount+ on October 24, 2024. The premiere will include two episodes. This will be followed by new episodes arriving on Thursdays on the streaming service. In total, the season will have ten episodes with the finale arriving on Thursday, December 19.
This final season of Star Trek: lower Decks will find the crow of the U.S.S. Cerritos closing “space potholes.” These are subspace fits which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. This would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford other than the other things going on. This includes an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries, and perhaps the most terrifying of all… their own career aspirations. This last season is described as “is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.”
