Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 Trailer Shows More Riker and Titan

Star Trek: Lower Decks has become a big hit on Paramount Plus.  This animated series continues the adventures of Starfleet from the perspective of a ship that does not have the same status as the Enterprise.  When last we left the crew of the Cerritos, Ensign Boimler was reassigned aboard the Titan with Captain Will Riker.

The second season trailer shows off Riker and his jazz references as he commands the ship with a quite panicked Boimler.  It’s a comedic moment, but also shows that the ship will get into some sticky situations.

The rest of the trailer features many references to other Trek shows and history.  One reference is of the mugato, which is an alien from the Original Series that looks like an ape and has a horn on its head.  Whether the crew of the Cerritos will venture to the same planet will be seen.  Another reference from The Next Generation is Beckett Mariner in an anbo-jitsu outfit.  It is most interesting considering Riker donned one in the TNG episode “The Icarus Factor”.  Lower Decks has banked on nostalgia and comedy and it has paid off in the first season.  The rich history of Star Trek has given way to some creative episodes to revisit fan-favorite planets, characters, and objects that are used in new, fun ways.

One scene of interest and that made me laugh was seeing Jack Ransom, the first officer, spin around shooting rainbows from his hands.  It seemed like such an Anime moment to me and I can’t wait to see the reason why he was doing this!

In all the teaser makes it look like it will be an exciting season for Lower Decks starting August 12, and I am very much in anticipation of it all!
