Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 Takes Top Spot at North American Box Office For 2024

Inside Out 2 continues to give Disney and Pixar reasons to jump for joy. This weekend it is once again continues to dominate at the box office, just as it has throughout the week. On Friday, it garnered a healthy $30.5 million bringing its domestic total to $285.7 million. This also was enough to make Inside Out 2 the most successful movie of the year. It passed Dune: Part Two and its $282 million. This all happened just eight days after the film was released!

Pete Docter — Chief Creative Officer of Pixar and director of 2015’s Inside Out — has said that the first film has “continued to be part of the conversation” since it debuted almost a decade ago. This led to the creation of the sequel.

“We hear from people saying, ‘This movie changed the way I think about parenting,’ or ‘The way I understand my own existence’ and like, whoa, that’s pretty heavy for a cartoon — Maybe there’s more to be done with this world?” he added. “So, we tapped Kelsey Mann, who directed Inside Out 2, to think along the lines of the first movie, but in a different direction.”

A Competition

There might be more notes of distinction for Inside Out 2, however. It currently is looking to supplant The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its record of the strongest second opening weekend. Mario holds that distinction currently with $92.3 million on its second weekend in theaters. It isn’t known if Inside Out 2 will make that mark or not, however, the fact that it is being discussed is a win itself. The way it is tracking COULD see the film reach anywhere from $93 million to $103 million.

Overseas

Overseas the Pixar flick continues to show its strength as well. As of the end of Thursday, the film had garnered $226.7 million. Depending on how strong the weekend is for it both domestically and internationally, the film could be looking at haul of $650 million to $700 million globally by the time the weekend is over! This would put it in striking distance of passing Dune: Part Two globally, as well as domestically and its $711.8 million.
