Tim Allen is heading back to ABC once again. The comedian appears to be taking on a similar but different role to those he has had in previous sitcoms The Last Man Standing and Home Improvement. The new series is called Shifting Gears and is being produced by 20th Century. 20th Century also produced The Last Man Standing.
In Shifting Gears, Tim Allen portrays a guy named Matt, who is a “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Mike and Julie Scully will co-write the script and executive produce the pilot alongside Allen and also Last Man Standing’s Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
The Last Man Standing ran for 9 years with Tim Allen starring in it. The first six, the show was licensed by Fox to ABC. The final three after Disney had purchased Fox, the series was licensed back to Fox. It isn’t the only relationship Tim Allen has with The Walt Disney Company. He also has appeared in The Santa Clause movie trilogy and then Disney+ series. He also has voiced Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies for Pixar. He is reportedly going to be reprising this role in Toy Story 5 after not bringing the character to life in Lightyear.
At this point, this is just a pilot pickup and it isn’t known if the series will be making its way to ABC or one of Disney’s streaming services. What do you think of Tim Allen returning to ABC? Would you like to see this series made? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
