On Sunday January 7, 2023, the cast of Tale of The Lion King took its final bow at Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland. This show, narrated by the Storytellers of the Pride Lands, told the story of The Lion King. This was done in a beautiful and unique way that include favorite songs from the animated classic, music and dance inspired by the cultural roots of The Lion King, along with live percussive musicians.
Tale of the Lion King initially opened in front of Paradise Bay in Disney California Adventure in 2019. The show returned to the Disneyland Resort after the pandemic when it premiered at Fantasyland Theatre in May 2022. Since then, it has been delighting guests with its energetic performances and iconic music. For the last performance, fans showed up to show their support to the cast and crew that made magic through this show’s run. Cheers came from the crowd for each song. This energy built to a emotional conclusion of the show as the cast took its final bow. The Daps Magic team was on hand for this special moment.
At this time, it isn’t know what is on the horizon for the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland. With the closure of Tale of the Lion King, the Fantasyland Theatre now joins the Hyperion Theater as a stage without a show. Last year, the Hyperion Theater presented Rogers: The Musical. There aren’t any known plans for the Hyperion Theater at this point either.

Sat in the front row with my wife just left of the reserved section for cast and crew members. Very emotional, especially seeing some of the performers tearing up on the side and in those not performing supporting the final show. Especially nice tribute to the percussionist who gives the lion roar at the end. He was always my favorite and always showed his appreciation when we made eye contact. Really going to miss that show.
