Next spring Fantasmic! will once again be lighting up the night with Mickey Mouse’s imagination. When it returns on May 24, a fan-favorite sequence will be returned to the nighttime spectacular. Pixie dust will be sprinkled on the show as the Peter Pan scene returns. This scene sees Peter Pan and Wendy fighting Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and pirates aboard the Columbia, which has been transformed into the Jolly Roger. This includes some absolutely magical moments as this story unfolds as the ship cruises past the audience.
The return of the Peter Pan segment will replace the Pirates of the Caribbean segment, which was added when Fantasmic! was re-imagined and returned in 2017. This segment saw Captain Jack Sparrow and his pirates facing off against Elizabeth Swann aboard the Black Pearl. There were plenty of fun stunts to be watched during this segment but it never had the level of uplifting Disney magic that was found in the original.
Fantasmic! is set to return to the Rivers of America at Disneyland Park on May 24, 2024. When it returns, it will not only feature the beloved Peter Pan segment. It will also feature a new climax at the end when Mickey Mouse traditionally faces off against the Maleficent dragon. According to Disney, “a thrilling new battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent” will be in its place after the demise of the Maleficent dragon earlier this year.
The legacy of Fantasmic! goes back to 1992 when it first opened at Disneyland on the Rivers of America. In the coming years and decades, iterations of this show would be created around the world. This includes Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort which still runs today. Another version of the show was created and ran at Tokyo DisneySea from 2011 to the spring of 2020. This is a show that celebrates imagination and brings imagination to life for those who watch it.
