Guillermo del Toro Almost Directed a Star Wars Movie

Guillermo del Toro worked on a movie for the Haunted Mansion and now it appears that he could have directed a Star Wars movie as well. How close this came to actually happening perhaps will never be known. However, it appears that it was a plan at one point. It also appears that a script for this film was also written.

The news came from Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. A recent episode had screenwriter David Goyer, who shared about his part in writing the script for this Star Wars film. On the podcast, Goyer said, “I wrote an unproduced Star Wars movie that Guillermo del Toro was going to direct … that was about four years ago … dabbling in Star Wars would have been fun for me.”

Goyer has also written scripts for movies like Batman Begins, Blade, and Terminator: Dark Fate. When he was asked why the movie never was made, he said, “There was just a lot of behind-the … stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time. But it’s a cool script … you’ll have to ask him [Guillermo del Toro] next time he’s on [the podcast.] It’s a cool script.”

Later on Twitter/X, del Toro confirmed the news. He reposted the portion of the podcast and seemed to indicate that the movie would have been about Jabba the Hutt or perhaps BB-8. In another post, del Tora shared that he thought this all happened about six years ago.

What do you think of the thought of Guillermo del Toro directing a Star Wars movie based on a script by David Goyer? Would you have liked to have seen this? What do you think it should have been about? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
