Patty Jenkins Star Wars Movie Gets Its Writer

The next Star Wars movie has its writer. Rogue Squadron, the Star Wars movie being directed by Patty Jenkins, is being written by Matthew Robinson. Robins, who most recently co-wrote and co-directed The Invention of Lying has written scripts for quite a variety of movies throughout his career.

The film, announced in December 2020 is the next Star Wars movie in the pipeline after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It is inspired in part by Jenkins father who was a fighter pilot. Jenkins has said she wants to make The “greatest fighter pilot movie ever made.”

Robinson has written the screenplay for films like Love and Monsters and the Edge of Tomorrow sequel, Live Die Repeat and Repeat. He also worked on The Little Shop of Horrors for Warner Bros.

At this time there are very few details known about Rogue Squadron. It is expected that it will go into pre-production sometime later this year and then begin shooting in 2022. It is currently scheduled to be released on December 22, 2023.
