Grand Admiral Thrawn has a long legacy in the Star Wars universe. When canon was reset after Lucasfilm being purchased by Disney, that legacy was left in doubt. However, during Star Wars Rebels, Thrawn made his triumphant return. After appearing in animated form for Rebels, he is now set to make the move to the live-action Ahsoka series.
On Saturday during a panel about Ahsoka at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, it was revealed that the man who voiced Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels will be reprising the role in Ahsoka. Lars Mikkelsen then came to the stage and received an exuberant welcome from those who were in attendance at the panel.
The addition of Thrawn to the lineup of characters for Ahsoka isn’t the only character beyond Ahsoka herself that will make the jump from Star Wars Rebels to the new series. Sabine Wren will also be coming over, this time portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Eman Esfandi will bring Ezra Bridger to the series. Hera Syndulla will be brought to the live-action screen by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Other characters coming to Ahsoka include Anakin Skywalker, played once again by Hayden Christensen, and also Ivanna Sakhno and Ray Stevenson as lightsaber wielding villains Shin Hati and Baylon. Baylon is a former Jedi who survived Order 66 and flew to the outer regions. It is believed he is now allied with Thrawn. Shin Hati is his apprentice who has been sent to destroy Ahsoka.
The first trailer for Ahsoka was released on Friday during the opening of Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023. The series will be arriving on DIsney+ in August 2023.
