When Mickey’s Toontown reopens at Disneyland on March 19, 2023, a new character will be on hand to meet and Mickey Mouse will be sporting a new look.
First off, Pete, who actually is Disney’s oldest continuing character, will be on hand to welcome guests to Mickey’s Toontown. Disney shared the news via social media this morning. The character has rarely been seen anywhere but on screen. His origins go back to 1925 when he appeared in Alice Solves the Puzzle. At the time he was a bear. He was changed to a cat upon the arrival of Mickey Mouse. He has continued to appear throughout the years in different formats including on the screen and also in comic books. In the 1990s, he became Goofy’s neighbor in Goof Troop. He also appeared in A Goofy Movie.
Mickey Mouse will also be getting a new look when he meets with guests outside of his home. While he will still wear the traditional outfit indoors, outside will be a bit more casual.
Along with Mickey’s new outfit, Clarabelle will be meeting with guests at Mickey’s Toontown. She will be joining Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Daisy in the reimagined town. Photos released by Disney of the characters show how the town has changed over the last year. This includes the removal of the fountain in the area in front of Mickey’s House, the area where Chip ‘n Dale’s Treehouse used to be, and more. There is plenty of more grassy areas to be enjoyed by guests young and old in the re-imagined land.
The reopening of Mickey’s Toontown is set to be on March 19, 2023. This comes just over 30 years since the original land opened at Disneyland. The re-imaging of Mickey’s Toontown has already seen Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway open in a portion of the land, along with some changes there. When the rest of the land opens, guests will get to experience CenTOONial Park, Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard, Donald’s Duck Pond, and much more.
