Today Disney has announced changes to its movie release lineup this year. With it, The Haunted Mansion and The Marvels have both seen their arrival in theaters changed.
The Haunted Mansion will be now released on July 28, 2023. Originally it was supposed to be released on August 11, 2023. The movie’s logline is: A single mom named Gabbie hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian to help exorcise their newly bought mansion; after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts. It is directed by Justin Simien and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, Winona Ryder, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Dan Levy, LaKeith Stanfield, and Tiffany Haddish.
The Marvels was originally set to be released on July 28, 2023. Its new release date is on November 10, 2023. This is the window where Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released this last year. The Marvels is the sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. It is being directed by Nia DaCosta and sees Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson returning from the first film. They are joined by Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel. Rambeau first appeared in Wandavision and Ms. Marvel in the Disney+ series of the same name. There haven’t been a lot of specifics released about this film yet.
The change in the release schedule comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger recently returned control of content back into the hands of the creators. During a recent earnings call, Iger shared about how he had reorganized The Walt Disney Company into three main segments. Under former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, content distribution was handled by the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. It is very possible that there will be more changes on the horizon as Disney continues to move into this era.
