More Details Released About WEB-SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure

When WEB-SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure opens on June 4, 2021, guests will be able to fulfill their dreams of being Spider-Man as they team up with him against some Spider-Bots that have gotten out of control. The new attraction utilizes multiple different technologies to create a truly interactive experience. Because of this, they will be able to sling webbing just like Spider-Man.

Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park Set to Open June 4

The premise of the attraction is that there is a workshop of young aspiring engineers at Avengers Campus’ Worldwide Engineering Brigade, also known as WEB. These young engineers are specialized in developing innovative new technologies that are to empower a new generation of Super Heroes. The workshop showcases inventions made by the WEB Tech team, including Peter Parker. One of these inventions is the Spider-Bots. In theory, they are designed to be robotic sidekicks that can help build anything a Super Hero might need. However, things don’t go quite as planned during Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland returned for the role in this attraction) demonstration of the Spider-Bots during an open house. The Spider-Bots end up stuck in replication mode and continue to recreate themselves. As mayhem ensues, guests are now recruits who are tasked with helping get control of the situation. They put on 3D glasses and soon find themselves test driving another one of the new inventions, the WEB Slinger vehicle, where they discover their new superpowers of web slinging as they try to save the campus from the Spider-Bots.

“We’re going to give you super powers,” said Brent Strong, executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering. “There’s not a kid who has read a comic or watched a TV show or a movie who hasn’t walked away wishing they could sling webs, and we’re going to make that happen for every single guest. The new technology can render a virtual web coming directly out of your wrist and into that world without touching an interface. It’s as close to being Spider-Man as you can get.”

During this adventure, guests will experience a mix of both physical, fully dimensional sets along with virtual environments. The result is an interactive adventure that utilizes a combination of animation, moving props, and also special effects that will be fun for the whole family.

To give guests the opportunity to be as super and accurate as possible, Imagineers utilized infrared cameras on the WEB Slinger vehicles to asses and analyze guests actions 60 times per second. This includes tracking eye position, shoulders, elbows and wrists. The attraction can identify when and how the guests move their arms and then map out the geometry of their web sling. It then renders a 3D webs in the interactive gameplay of the attraction.

As the guests proceed through the attraction, the WEB Slingers will take them on a virtual tour of Avengers Campus. They will virtually pass through multiple locations on the Campus including Pym Test Kitchen, Avengers Headquarters, and the Collector’s Fortress (Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!). The Spider-Bots will also become harder to beat as the mission continues and they continue to multiply.

The attraction does not have a height limit so all ages will be able to experience it. It also tracks how many Spider-Bots are captured as well. For those who want to add to their experience, there is WEB Tech accessories that can enhance the experience by giving guests the ability to have special powers, like multi-firing their web on the attraction. These technological enhancements can be found at the Disneyland Resort Backlot Premiere Shop featured at Avengers Campus, WEB Suppliers, and Campus Supply Pod merchandise locations.

For guests wanting to experience WEB-SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, they will need to utilize the virtual queue system on the morning of their Disney California Adventure park reservation. This can be done through the Disneyland App at 7:00 AM and also 12:00 PM. There will be no standby line for this attraction when it opens.

While at Avengers Campus, “guests may see Spider-Man as he takes to the skies high above Avengers Campus with gravity-defying, acrobatic feats never seen before in a Disney park. Following those stunning moves, Spider-Man will swing down off the building to ground level to meet up and say hello” to the new “recruits” who are on the Campus.

Avengers Campus is a new land at the Disneyland Resort in Disney California Adventure. It is dedicated to “discovering, recruiting and training the next generation of heroes.” To do this, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes come together and invite guests to join them as they seek the common good. The space was once a Stark Industries complex. Tony Stark eventually offered it as a place for training the next generation of Super Heroes. With that in mind, the once restricted secret complex was rebuilt and now makes up several unique spaces that are dedicated to several of Marvel’s heroes!
