Disney Launches 20th Television Animation

The Walt Disney Company has launched a new animation division called 20th Television Animation. It is being led by Marci Proietto. This new division is dedicated to created adult animated content.

Along with developing and producing new animated series, it will also be the home for its current library that includes The Simpsons and Family Guy. This change also means that other legacy shows like American Dad and Bob’s Burgers will now move from 20th Television to the new unit.

The 20th Television Animation studio will report to Walt Disney Television President of Entertainment Craig Hunegs. This is in contracts to 20th Television and ABC Signature which both report to the chairman of entertainment for Walt Disney Television Dana Walden.

At this point, there are 11 series in production at 20th Television Animation. This includes recently ordered Koala Man at Hulu and also Solar Opposites that started its second season last week. Fox’s The Great North, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, Bless The Harts, Duncanville, American Dad, Central Park, and The Prince all are now a part of 20th Television Animation.

There are “dozens” of additional projects that are currently in development for a range of platforms the company said.

Marci Proietto has been with 20th Century for nearly three decades. She started as the assistant to the head of production straight out of college. She moved to The Simpsons during its sixth season and since then has worked on every other Fox animated property. In 2018 she was promoted to EVP Animation of what was then 20th Century Fox TV. Proietto is estimated to have worked on over 2,440 episodes of 22 animated television series through the course of her 29 years with the studio.
