1,800 More Furloughed From Disneyland Resort as Closure Continues on Indefinitely

Nearly 1,800 more Cast Members have been furloughed from the Disneyland Resort. This comes as the Disneyland Resort continues to remain closed with no opening in sight. The news came from a WARN Act notification filed on November 12. The furloughs began on November 23rd and impacted 1,797 union and non-union Cast Members.

In the WARN Act notification, Disney indicated that the furloughs will impact a multitude of different jobs. This includes landscapers, engineers, painters, plasterers, and custodians, along with Cast Members from entertainment, restaurants and attractions. 18 Disneyland firefighters will also impacted.

In the filing Disney said:

We have provided impacted employees as much notice as practicable under the circumstances, as we had to act quickly after the state recently announced its unexpected reopening restrictions, which now make clear that we cannot reopen Disneyland Resort in the foreseeable future.

At this time it is completely unknown when the Disneyland Resort will be reopening. With COVID-19 numbers currently on the rise and Orange County in the Purple Tier, an opening does not some to be anywhere close. The California Governor also indicated that a stay at home order could be returning. This could lead impact the currently open Downtown Disney District which also currently includes Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure.

DAPS MAGIC will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available. What do you think about the newest rounds of furloughs? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
