During a press conference today, California Governor Gavin Newsom shared a little bit about what will be happening in terms of the reopening of theme parks in California. What he shared is that interested parties should tune in tomorrow when Dr. Ghaly’s press conference. Dr. Ghaly is the  Secretary of California Health and Human Services.

During the press conference, Newsom didn’t give too many hints as to what the guidelines will entail. However, he did say that California intends to “break things up” a bit. It won’t be just one set of guidelines that cover all theme parks. It appears they will instead be more specialized for specific parks or types of parks.

The news of the potential arrival of reopening guidelines for theme parks in California comes after weeks of going back and forth on the topic. First, the governor shared that there would guidelines coming “soon” and then “very soon.” However, where theme parks were given a preview of them, there were some apparent disagreements over some of the guidelines. This led to California then saying it was in “no hurry” to issue guidelines for reopening. Around this time, Disney Chairman Bob Iger also resigned from the California Economic Recovery Task Force. This was a move that Governor Newsom said wasn’t surprising. Shortly after, Newsom sent a team to Florida to check out the health and safety protocols of the theme parks there, including Walt Disney World Resort. Last week, Newsom had officials inspect the health and safety guidelines in California theme parks, including the Disneyland Resort. The most recent updates come from Disney unions who wrote to the governor asking for them to reopen the Disneyland Resort.
