The BBC has announced that, for Doctor Who Day, the soundtrack for the 60th anniversary specials of the iconic show will be released. The music from Murray Gold will be released on both CD and digital formats on November 23, 2026. This is also Doctor Who Day.

Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary included three special episodes, The Star Beast, Wild Blue Yonder, and The Giggle. They all aired between November 25 and December 9, 2023. The scores for these three anniversary episodes will be released digitally by Silva Screen Records on November 23rd. The triple-disc set will follow and be released on November 27th. They can be pre-ordered here.

Composer Murray Gold returned to the franchise for The Star Beast, and his music once again accompanied The Doctor when the special premiered on November 25, 2023. The score included a new arrangement of the theme song and the return of fan-favorite motifs, including I Am The Doctor. This also saw Gold reuniting with Russell T Davies for the first time since the 2017 Christmas special Twice Upon a Time. The score blends nostalgia from series 4, which also featured David Tennant and Catherine Tate, with some unexpected melodic throwbacks. This included moments that brought back the Eleventh Doctor’s theme when Donna was regaining her memories.

As Murray says: “On this album is a record of all the music that went into that transitioning series between the return of Doctor Who with David Tennant and Catherine Tate in 2023 up to the first season of Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor which began on Christmas Day the same year.”

He concluded, “It’s a pretty exhaustive volume.”
