Nia DaCosta is slated to direct Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel 2. Deadline broke the story about the Candyman director heading to Marvel Studios to helm the second Captain Marvel movie.
DaCosta is taking over the reins from Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck who directed the first film. This is common practice at Marvel Studios with many other of the superheroes getting different directors for different chapters of their stories.
Megan McDonnell wrote the script for Captain Marvel 2 and Brie Larson is set to return as Carol Danvers. In the first film, Danvers found herself in the midst of an explosion that gave her superpowers. With these new powers, she found herself in the midst of a battle between the Kree and Skrulls. The powers that she found herself with not only helped her bring peace and save the Earth, they also made her one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel hit theaters in March of 2019 and went on to garner $1.3 billion at the global box office.
Nia DaCosta’s star has been rising since direction Little Woods, an indie film. She then went on to direct Candyman for Jordan Peele. While it has not been released yet due to the coronavirus, it is highly anticipated after the release of its first trailer.
At this time, neither Disney nor Marvel Studios have commented on DaCosta directing Captain Marvel 2.
