Recently rumors begin to swirl that Disney was going to discontinue the release of 4K Blu-Ray discs. The rumor said that Disney’s focus would be moving to its streaming services instead and was shared by The Digital Bits. Forbes, however, reached out to Disney to see the validity of this rumor. A Disney spokesperson gave the following response:
“There are no plans to discontinue releases in a particular format. We evaluate each release on a case by case basis and pursue the best strategy to bring our content into consumer homes across platforms that meet a variety of demands.”
At this time, the response seems fairly straight forward. There is wiggle room with the “case by case basis” but at this time it appears that Disney will continue to release movies on 4K Blu-Ray discs based on this statement. It is hard to verify this with no new movies currently in theaters from Disney due to coronavirus. DAPS MAGIC will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
