Jude Law could be the next person to become one of the world’s most infamous pirates. According to Variety, Jude Law is in talks to portray Captain Hook in an upcoming live-action Peter Pan film Peter Pan & Went.
Currently, Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery is attached to the project to direct. Lowery also co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks. Jim Whitaker is producing.
Peter Pan is a 1953 animated Disney film based on the J.M. Barrie novel about the boy who wouldn’t grow up. Through the years, there have been several different theatrical adaptations of the book. The first was a 1924 adaptation of the stage play. The character went on to appear in movies like Hook (1991), Peter Pan (2003), Neverland (2003), and Pan (2015). Peter Pan would also appear in Disney theme parks and stage performances, books, and even statues.
If Jude Law does indeed end up as Captain Hook in this new take on Peter Pan, he would join an illustrious rank of actors to portray this iconic villain. This includes Dustin Hoffman, Jason Isaacs, Boris Karloff, and Tim Curry to name a few.
At one point it was thought that this film could end up going straight to Disney+. However, Variety is now reporting that it is expected to go to the big screen. This comes after both The Lion King and Aladdin grossed over $1 billion at the box office in 2019.
