Thursday night the Disneyland Resort 2019 All-American College Band was led by world-renown jazz trombonist Jiggs Whigham. The set was performed at the Hollywood Backlots Stage at Disney California Adventure at 8:45 pm. With the sound of superhero music in the background, Jiggs Whigham and the band jazzed up the night with a set that one can imagine Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter loving.
Whigham has been leading clinicians for the Disneyland Resort All-American College Band for over thirty years. He currently is the soloist and clinician worldwide, conductor of the BBC Big Band in Great Britain. Whigham is also the artistic director of the Berlin Jazz Orchestra and visiting tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. He is also the musical director of the LaJJOB (Brandenburger Youth Jazz Orchestra) and artistic director of the BUJAZZO (german jazz orchestra). Jiggs Whigham is active as a soloist, conductor, composer, author, and educator.
The set was a diverse collection of big band jazz music picked by Whigham himself. As they performed the songs, his personality shown through. At one point he was tiptoeing around the other stage. Another song had him hopping into the back and playing the drums. Jiggs Whigham is an entertainer to the core and completely enjoyable to watch.
