Tokyo Disney Resort is celebrating its 35th anniversary. Along with the celebration, an announcement was made that the Oriental Land Company is expanding one of the two parks at the Tokyo Disney Resort. This could be either Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea. This announcement rules out the rumor that Tokyo Disney Resort is building a third gate.
“We would like to create a Tokyo Disney Resort that fulfills new dreams. Currently, we are planning the park’s expansion,” Oriental Land Chairman Toshio Kagami said at a ceremony commemorating the 35th anniversary of Tokyo Disney Resort this last Sunday.
Currently, there aren’t any details on when this expansion will happen. There is work happening on a ground level parking lot that will make it into a multi-story lot and free up some land. This could create more space for the new expansion to be built. The parking lot is expected to be completed before the end of the 2019 fiscal year for the Resort. It is expected that the expansion should begin once the parking lot is finished.
During the 2017 fiscal year, the Tokyo Disney Resort had 30.1 million visitors. This marked the 5th year that the Tokyo Disney Resort had more than 30 million people visit. This popularity has led to the need for the expansion. Already work is being done on new additions to the Tokyo Disney Resort that includes Soarin‘ for Tokyo DisneySea in 2019 and a Beauty and the Beast addition that will come to Tokyo Disneyland in 2020.
