Hong Kong Disneyland is in the beginnings of a major makeover plan. This plan will see the park expanded with exciting new offerings and will also see it change one of its most iconic features, its castle. Currently, the castle is a replica of Sleeping Beauty Castle as found at the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California. This will all soon change though.
Work will begin on the castle after the Disney in the Stars fireworks on January 1, 2018. The result will be a very different looking castle. The Disney Parks blog describes it this way: The classic castle will draw inspiration from a variety of storybook influences and styles, with new thematic spires, domes and a design that reaches ever skyward. Features will be inspired by many of the Disney princesses, including special finial decorations on the spires such as Snow White’s apple, Cinderella’s coach and Belle’s rose. Original artwork and unique sculptures will add even more magic and fantasy.
The design won’t be the only thing that changes. The popular Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will offer the chance for young ones to get beautifully transformed before they meet Disney princesses at the castle. The new look for the castle will also become the backdrop for new entertainment offerings both during the day and at night. It will begin the yearly offering of new entertainment at Hong Kong Disneyland that will happen every year until 2023!
