Friday marked the end of the season for the Disneyland Resort 2017 All-American College Band. The band, which played for 11 weeks this summer, ended the season with a sit-down jazz set. This set took place in the Royal Theatre in Fantasy Faire. The day began with a bit of a hiccup at the Sleeping Beauty Castle Set. As the band marched into place, the sound system started throwing out loud glitchy noise. Just as Dr. Ron McCurdy began to leave with the band, the noise went away and the band began its day. The day included that Sleeping Beauty Castle set. It was followed by the patriotic flag retreat. Next came the set in front of the Main Street Station. Finally, the day ended with the jazz set.
Throughout the summer, the band has performed with guest clinicians including:
- Ron Carter
- John Clayton
- Wayne Bergeron
- Steve Houghton
- Gordon Goodwin
- Wycliffe Gordon
- Gregg Field
- Jiggs Whigham
- Javon Jackson
These guest clinicians have mentored the band and shared what it is like to work in the music industry. They have also had classwork and specific focuses that each student has worked through during the program.
This year the season began with the patriotic flag retreat and ended with the jazz set. The band performed music that ranged from Star Wars to Steve Wonder, from Moana to classic jazz greats.
