Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – Delayed!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been delayed due to script issues. Up until recently, the film known as “Pirates 5” seemed to be gathering steam towards a 2015 summer release.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the delay is due to script issues, but could also be connected to the success, or lack thereof, of The Lone Ranger. It is looking like Disney will be taking a $190 million write down for this film. It could be this loss is causing Disney to re-evaluate the team behind both The Lone Ranger and Pirates franchises. [pullquote]Captain Jack Sparrow may not be able to pull the Pirates franchise to success[/pullquote] Captain Jack Sparrow may not be able to pull the Pirates franchise to success and Disney may realize that Johnny Depp does not equal automatic box office success. It could also be that the new directors are asserting some direction on the script and causing delays. At this point, details aren’t known and all that can be done is speculate until something official is announced by the Walt Disney Studios.

Currently, beyond the title, not a lot is known about the next Pirates film. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg are directing the film and Johnny Depp is returning to star as Captain Jack Sparrow.

What do you think of this development?
