Goodbye Park Hopping Rule! - GEEKS CORNER #816

0:17
Welcome to Geeks Corner. I'm Mr. Daps.
0:19
>> I'm Katie.
0:20
>> And did you know that the first song
0:22
that The Electric Mayhem performed was
0:24
called Love You to Death in the second
0:26
pilot for The Muppet Show?
0:28
>> I There's a lot of things I didn't know
0:31
about that that I could break down. Like
0:32
second pilot
0:34
>> and Love You to Death. Was it a cover?
0:36
>> No, it's original.
0:37
>> Oh, it was an original. And they've
0:39
never played it again.
0:41
>> Wow.
0:41
>> I don't know.
0:42
>> That's the deep cuts. That's the deep
0:44
cuts.
0:44
>> I don't know that they've never played
0:45
it again, though.
0:46
>> Oh, okay. Um I know Dr. Teeth performed
0:49
it before the entire band did, I think,
0:51
on the Tonight Show, but you never know.
0:54
Like these things just keep going and
0:56
>> classic Dr. Teeth,
0:57
>> you know. Got to be a star. Uh yeah.
1:00
Anyway, what should people do, Katie?
1:01
>> Uh you should do stuff. How are you? How
1:06
are you doing? Uh you you should
1:09
subscribe here with us, see more of this
1:12
content, watch this and go, yes. Um you
1:15
should also go to dapshq.com.
1:17
There's a post show to the show. Um and
1:19
if staying up late is not your jam,
1:21
there is a replay of this show. And
1:24
also,
1:24
>> which is allowed,
1:25
>> which is allowed. And also there's just
1:28
a whole lot of fun stuff on there.
1:29
That's where we do secrets, where we do
1:31
some planning. Um it's where you get to
1:33
find out things before everybody else.
1:34
It's pretty cool. Mhm. Maybe see what we
1:37
have in store tonight. You never know.
1:38
Uh, also today is a fantastic day. Every
1:42
day is a fantastic day to join our
1:44
Chalkwalk team, which I believe I just
1:46
put the link in the chat if it worked.
1:49
If it didn't, it's
1:50
chalkwalk.org/dapsmagic
1:52
or you can just go to chalkwalk.org and
1:53
search for dapsmagic and then join our
1:56
team. It will be a lovely morning at
1:59
well, still night kind of.
2:01
>> It's still night.
2:02
>> It'll be very early. It'll be very fun
2:04
and uh we hope you'll be walking with us
2:06
before the parks open on that morning as
2:09
we make a difference. So, here is the
2:11
thing.
2:13
It's just getting started. We got a few
2:14
months before this goes. So, if you have
2:18
ideas for fundraising ideas, we did the
2:21
pickle milkshakes a couple years ago.
2:22
Not going to do that again because you
2:24
have to do something different. But if
2:25
you have ideas for what we could do as
2:28
an incentive for fundraising, let us
2:31
know in the chat or on social media or
2:33
anywhere else. And uh we will pick the
2:35
best idea and run with it for the next
2:38
few months. And hopefully that will be a
2:39
lot of fun. And this could also be not
2:41
just fundraising. It could be like if we
2:43
get this amount of team members or
2:45
something too or a team fundraising goal
2:47
or you there's there's options for this.
2:49
So um anyway, head on over to
2:51
chalkwalk.org/deepsmagic, /deepsmagic.
2:53
Join the team and let us know if you
2:55
have any fundraising or team raising
2:57
ideas because I think it could be a lot
2:58
of fun.
3:00
>> All right, moving right along. Very
3:02
happy news is on June 9th, you will no
3:06
longer have to wait until 11:00 to park
3:09
hop. In fact, even better, which I love
3:13
about this, yes, you still have to make
3:15
a reservation that's still here, but you
3:18
could make it a reservation for
3:20
Disneyland and walk into Disney
3:23
California Adventure at 8:00, maybe even
3:25
7:45 if they've opened the gate early.
3:27
Um, you will not have to enter the park.
3:30
>> You'll have to start with
3:32
>> Yes, you do not have to. You can pick
3:34
whatever park you want to start with,
3:35
even if you have a reservation for the
3:37
other park. Um, the way I'm thinking
3:40
about it in my brain is this is exactly
3:42
how park harping works after 11 am.
3:45
>> So, if I have a Disney California
3:46
Adventure Reservation and I show up at
3:48
the resort at 11:30, I can go straight
3:50
into Disneyland and that will still work
3:52
that way
3:54
>> as long as there's capacity. Um, when
3:57
this new system, I guess you could call
4:00
it, goes into effect. What do you think
4:02
about them dropping the park hopping
4:04
rule just as Thomas Masloom said they
4:06
were going to?
4:06
>> Wow. We like it when people do what they
4:08
say they're going to do.
4:09
>> Good job.
4:09
>> Yeah, I'm I'm happy about it.
4:11
>> I I think that the 11 a.m. rule was
4:13
incredibly arbitrary. Um I think
4:16
>> remember there was like a Was it 2:00
4:17
first or 1:00?
4:19
>> It originally was 1, I believe, and then
4:21
it moved to 11. And that was when I
4:23
think I really was like, "Okay,
4:26
>> I don't understand." Um, so the 11 a.m.
4:29
thing has actually become something of a
4:31
running joke between us because we're
4:32
like, "Oh, we need to if we're going to
4:34
go into either park, we need to aim be
4:37
in the esplanade at like 10:45." Yep.
4:40
>> Because then you seem rude if like the
4:41
people are all waiting for the 11:00
4:43
a.m. uh gates opening and then like
4:46
>> you're like, "Oh, excuse me." Like
4:48
trying to push through. It's rude. So we
4:49
were like we always tried to get in
4:51
before that rush. Um, but I I think
4:54
there's just always been,
4:57
and I, again, this ties into something
4:59
that Thomas said, there's been this
5:02
element of it's very hard to be
5:04
hospitable when you're also like, hey,
5:07
yeah, there you do have a valid ticket
5:09
for this theme park, but you cannot come
5:11
into this theme park right now. Um, and
5:14
we saw that approach in all different
5:15
ways, but at the end of the day, it did
5:17
feel closed off. it did it did feel not
5:21
um conducive to the environment they
5:23
were trying to create. And so I think
5:25
this is now like you have a park hopper.
5:27
Cool. Like come party wherever you want.
5:30
>> You're getting what you paid for for the
5:31
entire day.
5:32
>> Yeah.
5:32
>> Which I think is a great thing. Um, I am
5:34
curious, and this just comes from a
5:36
conversation I just had with another
5:37
friend, how this is going to impact the
5:41
rush in the morning for parking
5:43
>> because generally a little bit before
5:45
11:00, things start getting quite a bit
5:47
busier. And will that be a continued
5:50
thing because that's just the time of
5:51
day people like to get there or were
5:53
people holding off and not getting there
5:55
till around 11 so that they could pick
5:57
which park they wanted to go to and not
6:00
be constrained to whatever they'd uh
6:02
chosen as their first park. Um I see in
6:04
the chat Chris saying I think this is or
6:06
I feel this is a preamble to dumping
6:08
reservations. I
6:12
uh let's see. There we go. Uh, this
6:14
might be a test to see how they handle
6:17
the unexpected. See, they put up the
6:20
wrong one. That's funny. Um,
6:24
test to see how I can read. Um, there we
6:27
go. Test to see how they handle
6:29
unexpected crowds. So, when we were
6:32
meeting with Thomas Masloom, he made it
6:34
very clear that the reservations would
6:37
not be going anywhere. What I do think
6:40
you could see happening is a
6:42
modification of the reservations to be a
6:45
little bit more gracious, like maybe
6:48
making day of modifications in the
6:52
future because I think that would be
6:54
something that would make everybody
6:55
happy because how many times do you have
6:58
a reservation and you know you wake up
7:00
with a cold or you wake up not feeling
7:02
well or you wake up getting called into
7:04
work or whatever it is and um
7:06
>> and that's what has happened to me in
7:08
the last two months. There you go. But I
7:10
do think there would be that would be a
7:12
major win if you're going to keep the
7:14
reservations so you can continue with
7:17
your business model because it was
7:19
business reasons that really they they
7:22
want to stick with the reservations. But
7:24
um if you're going to stick with that, I
7:27
I think there's ways you could make it
7:29
less stressful and less
7:33
>> the thing I will say because I was not
7:35
in that that famous meeting that Mr.
7:38
apps talks about with Thomas Maslin. But
7:39
I will say, and I don't think this is in
7:42
I touched on the order, but I don't
7:43
think it's in the order tonight. They
7:44
just built reservation capability into
7:47
the UI of the Disneyland app. I don't I
7:50
don't
7:50
>> Oh, yeah. That's not in the show.
7:51
>> I don't think that is funny.
7:53
>> But it's like that to me I'm like, "Oh
7:54
yeah, finally uh what are we five years
7:57
out of reopening? We now have a system
8:00
in the app that you can make a
8:02
reservation." I think we're just getting
8:04
started, baby.
8:05
>> Well, and we got it before Walt Disney
8:06
World. Yeah,
8:07
>> like they just got it I think yesterday
8:09
or something. Yeah. Um, yeah, that's an
8:11
that's an interesting thing, too. But I
8:13
I think it is a step forward. It's a
8:14
step in the right direction. It's nice
8:16
to see them continuing to try to make
8:17
for better guest experiences and uh it's
8:20
not in the show either, but they have
8:22
the new um the entrance system too with
8:25
facial technology or facial recognition
8:27
technology and that has
8:28
>> sped up
8:29
>> sped up the like there's rarely a line
8:31
and even when there is it zips through
8:33
so fast. Um it's been an interesting
8:35
thing seeing how that works and um I
8:40
think that's like I think there's still
8:41
room to improve there like um you know I
8:45
I
8:48
personally
8:48
>> oh
8:50
>> would love more than okay
8:52
>> because I I that is kind of the thing I
8:54
hear a lot when I'm going into the park.
8:56
Okay. and and just kind of the waved in
8:58
and I would like a happier greeting
9:00
personally and I don't know what you do
9:02
about that but
9:03
>> um
9:04
>> I know what you do.
9:06
>> You read Will Getera's book
9:08
unreasonable.
9:09
>> I it's a culture thing. It's going to
9:10
get there. Like I have zero doubt about
9:12
this and I just think it's it's a place
9:14
and I don't give them too much uh like I
9:17
don't blame them because they're all
9:18
learning the brand new system
9:20
>> and I would tend to guess that's a
9:21
little bit stressful not knowing the
9:23
system.
9:23
>> Yeah. like you had the same system
9:25
forever. They had it like the back of
9:27
their hand. They could focus on the on,
9:29
you know, really welcoming it. So, I
9:31
think that's something that'll be
9:32
coming. Um, we also know coming in very
9:37
soon next month, uh, we're getting two
9:40
new episodes of Behind the Attraction,
9:41
which are going to focus on the Disney
9:43
Cruise Line. And the part I love about
9:45
this is it goes from the origins of the
9:48
Disney Cruise Line all the way up
9:49
through the Disney Destiny. And um and I
9:53
kind of think that's something that
9:57
if you followed along, you have a
10:00
working knowledge of origins and the
10:03
history of Disney Cruise Line. But I
10:05
really hope we get some funds, you know,
10:07
Big Red Boat, like true origins, like
10:11
doesn't start just in 1998, but like
10:13
let's go into where the seed was planted
10:15
and and um you know what I think that
10:20
that part of the story is really
10:21
fascinating. Like it'll also be fun to
10:24
see the making of the Disney Destiny and
10:26
and that portion of it as well. But to
10:28
me, the real exciting part is the origin
10:31
story. How about you? What do you think
10:32
of this?
10:32
>> I'm excited for this. Uh for a very long
10:34
time the Disney cruise line was a bit of
10:36
gap in my knowledge. Um because if you
10:39
know me as a Disney fan, I have always
10:41
been um the most interested in the
10:44
tangible. Um I grew up as a Disneyland
10:48
fan specifically because I could go to
10:51
Disneyland and I could read about it and
10:52
then go see the things that I read
10:54
about. I did not start caring about Walt
10:56
Disney World until I took my first trip
10:58
and then I started reading before I went
11:00
and I was like, "Okay, cool. This is a
11:01
thing I'm going to experience." So, for
11:03
a long time for me, Disney Cruise Line
11:05
was a um I'm not even really a cruise
11:09
person. Again, this guys, this is this
11:11
is a different Katie, but it was like I
11:13
wasn't even really a cruise person. I'm
11:15
definitely not going to do a Disney
11:16
cruise line. So, just this gap in my
11:17
knowledge where I was like, oh, okay,
11:18
like that's that's cool, whatever. So,
11:22
now there's definitely this aspect of
11:24
like, oh, it is real. It is something to
11:27
experience. Um, and also having listened
11:30
to Johnny uh quite a bit and now I'm a
11:33
huge cruise person. Surprise, surprise.
11:35
Um, I think that that's a really fun
11:38
thing to kind of start fresh for me.
11:41
Like, let's go from the beginning. Tell
11:43
me about Disney Cruise Line.
11:44
>> Yeah. And I can remember the Big Red
11:46
Boat, like the advertisements for it on
11:48
TV in the 90s. And so, I think it's
11:50
going to be fun to refresh that memory
11:52
and to dig into that. And it it'll be
11:55
interesting to see what parts of the
11:57
story they can tell into because these
12:00
these episodes move pretty quick. Like
12:02
that's
12:03
>> I feel like that's the great part of
12:04
them and that's also they're like wait
12:06
no I want it to be more like the
12:07
imaginering story for this part because
12:10
there's some of it I'm like oh this is
12:11
perfect for what it is and then there's
12:13
other times I'm like oh no no I want I
12:14
want more there. Um, so I hope this is
12:17
um maybe a prelude to more uh digging in
12:23
deeper with stuff like the Imagineering
12:25
Story. And I believe Leslie Eyeworks was
12:26
on a cruise recently, so who knows,
12:28
maybe something's coming. Um, but yeah,
12:31
I think this will be fun and I can't
12:32
wait to see what they do with it. And
12:34
um, I can't wait to see also how it sets
12:38
up the current and future path that the
12:43
Disney Cruise Line is on. uh because
12:45
they're in a period of obviously
12:48
pretty substantial growth and it'll be
12:51
interesting to see if there's any teases
12:53
as to what's coming next on ships
12:55
because you know usually I feel like a
12:56
lot of these shows they're like and this
12:59
they don't tell you outright but they
13:00
kind of give hints as to like oh this is
13:02
where we're going to go. So I hope we
13:04
get some of that too. I don't I don't
13:05
know that I
13:07
completely expect it but I can hope. Um
13:10
yeah anything else you want to say about
13:11
that one? I think we should
13:13
>> talk about Muppets.
13:15
>> Thanks, Daddy. Thank you, Mr. Daddy.
13:17
Thanks, man.
13:19
>> And it worked.
13:22
It's always that moment of like, I
13:23
pushed the button. Will the button work
13:26
too many times?
13:27
>> It only happened one show, but man, that
13:29
show's really
13:31
uh not even the same computer. So, thank
13:34
goodness for that. Uh we got a lot of
13:36
Rock and Roller Coaster starring The
13:38
Muppets News this last week, and it's
13:40
not even open yet. The media event is
13:41
this week. So, I'm assuming tomorrow we
13:44
will be getting a whole lot more as
13:46
people get to share what they're doing
13:49
and and whatever this media event is.
13:52
And um I I'm
13:55
Yeah, I can't wait for it. But we got to
13:57
look at the courtyard. We got to look at
13:58
the pre-show. We got to look at
14:00
Statatler and Waldorf. Um
14:03
what did you think? Let's start with the
14:05
courtyard. What do you think of the new
14:07
courtyard? And apparently it's full of
14:09
of classic rock music now, which looks
14:13
insane.
14:14
>> The music loop is insane. First of all,
14:16
I will also say because we're not I'm
14:18
not even going to touch the music loop
14:19
right now. But what I will say,
14:20
>> and we could do a whole episode on the
14:21
music. We probably will delay.
14:24
>> Uh we should actually go back and cross
14:26
reference our guesses
14:28
>> for Rock and Roller Coaster and see if
14:30
any of them are on the loop.
14:31
>> There you go.
14:31
>> Just saying. Um I will say that I love
14:33
there's Electric Mayhem on there. I love
14:35
that Believe in Us is on there. Um, I
14:37
love Believe in Us. Um, I think that if
14:40
you did not watch Electric Mayhem,
14:42
please go back and rectify that. That
14:44
was such a great series.
14:45
>> And buy the vinyl because then maybe
14:46
they'll make another vinyl
14:48
>> cuz we we listen.
14:49
>> I love the vinyl.
14:50
>> I was like, we actually have two of our
14:53
One of them is there
14:55
>> over there
14:55
>> and the other one we actually listen to.
14:58
Um,
15:00
that looks so good. I think that the
15:01
piano looks great. I think the car looks
15:04
great. Um, and I think that the posters
15:07
all look super fun.
15:08
>> But what about the guitar?
15:11
>> Oh, yeah, the guitar. Sorry, but I was
15:12
saying the piano. Like in my head, it's
15:14
like the guitar into the
15:15
>> Oh, I thought you meant the piano around
15:17
the bottom with the gold tooth or the
15:19
gold. Okay. Yeah,
15:20
>> cuz those are two separate.
15:21
>> Well, I know that they're two separate.
15:22
Okay.
15:22
>> Wait, what? A piano and a guitar are the
15:24
same. Um, no, I think it looks nice. I
15:27
think that um a lot of people freaked
15:29
out a little bit unnecessarily that the
15:31
colors did not exactly match the concept
15:33
art. It's okay, guys. It looks great. I
15:37
think that what they did really well is
15:40
that before when you walked up to this
15:43
attraction, you were like, "Aerosmith,
15:45
I know what I'm getting into." And now
15:48
when you walk up, you're like, "Muppets,
15:50
I know what I'm getting into." Cuz it's
15:52
It is colors. It is.
15:53
>> It's more than Muppets. It's electric
15:55
mayhem. Like you were walking into the
15:57
Presbyterian church in the Muppet movie
16:00
>> and
16:02
>> yeah,
16:03
>> it's true. Like there it's it's exactly
16:06
what you'd expect. And uh
16:07
>> across from a decrepit hotel,
16:12
Hollywood Tower Hotel.
16:13
>> Oh, yes. Yes. I thought you meant The
16:14
Muppet Movie. I was like, what?
16:16
>> Uh Great Muppet Caper, The Happiness
16:17
Hotel. Thank you very much.
16:18
>> That counts, but not in the Muppet
16:20
movie.
16:20
>> I know.
16:20
>> Um anyway, I think it's fantastic as
16:23
well. I think the color choices are
16:25
better than the concept art. Like I
16:28
think they're brighter, they're more
16:29
vibrant, they're more
16:30
>> You also have to remember this is
16:32
Florida.
16:32
>> It's going to You have to go really
16:34
bright.
16:34
>> Exactly. Um but I think it's going to be
16:36
great. And I'm just looking over here at
16:38
the Electric Mayhem. Like it fits that
16:40
vibe really well. Going inside, there's
16:44
also the store, which we haven't seen
16:46
pictures of the store, but the the
16:48
merchandise looks fun. Um, but going
16:50
inside, we got a look at the preview or
16:52
the pre-show with the animatronic
16:55
scooter. And the best thing they did
16:56
there was motion cap for an audio
16:59
animatronic with a with a muppet. Like,
17:02
who would have ever dreamed?
17:03
>> They literally put Scooter in a mo cap
17:05
suit.
17:06
>> That's insane.
17:08
>> Brilliant. Um, like it's We could
17:12
nitpick. We're not going to.
17:13
>> I'm not going to. They have arm rods.
17:15
>> The The penguins are great. the the I
17:18
would love Ahari Krishna joke. Um
17:23
Scooter is great. The way they use the
17:25
electric mayhem and beaker in the
17:26
background. Fantastic.
17:27
>> What do you actually want to talk about
17:28
with the pre-show?
17:30
>> The penguins. I already
17:32
>> You haven't said the penguins yet.
17:33
>> I did say the penguins are great.
17:35
>> Oh well,
17:36
>> um I think they're great. Yeah,
17:37
>> love the penguins.
17:38
>> Um
17:39
>> no, they're great. Like Yeah. Uh like I
17:42
would want more penguins to be
17:43
completely honest, but they do exactly
17:45
what they need to do. They're not stars
17:47
in this case. There's no Eugene that I
17:49
heard.
17:50
>> What about in an orchestra?
17:52
>> What about with a cannon?
17:53
>> There you go. Um, and then we come to
17:56
the ultra fun part, which is the return
17:59
of Statler and Waldorf and in their
18:02
their Airstream trailer. Um, which is
18:06
fun. Like, it's great.
18:07
>> Of course, they're in a a trailer,
18:11
whatever. my grandparents had one, you
18:12
know, like it's it's kind of fits
18:15
perfectly. Um, and they're using some
18:17
jokes that are familiar that are
18:19
fantastic that I'm not going to say too
18:20
much of just because I know Chris hasn't
18:22
read spoilers yet, but um, but overall,
18:26
home run. I think everything you could
18:28
do with that space, they did right. And
18:32
now we just wait to see if they did
18:34
equally well with the the actual
18:37
attraction itself, which I assume they
18:40
did. I Yeah,
18:45
I feel a lot of things about the
18:46
Muppets. I feel a lot of things a lot of
18:48
the time about the Muppets. Um, and I
18:50
think that I am
18:52
very hopeful for this because everything
18:55
I have seen feels very Muppety. The
18:58
thing that I just have to wonder is like
19:00
there's like 12 celebrity cameos
19:04
where
19:05
>> I think in the queue.
19:06
>> Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. So, I'm excited to
19:09
also see the queue.
19:11
>> Yeah, I think they're in the queue and
19:12
then also in the exit or something. It
19:14
sounds like they're they're part of that
19:16
part.
19:17
>> I want to go to wherever Darren Chris is
19:18
and be like Darren Chris
19:21
attractions.
19:21
>> It'll be interesting to see how they do
19:23
that. Um
19:24
>> I'm sure we'll find out very soon
19:26
though. Uh,
19:28
I think I think also it's going to be
19:31
very fun that this is going to introduce
19:35
a ton of new fans to the Muppets. I
19:38
think
19:39
>> if for no other reason they're like,
19:40
"Oh, I want to go on the roller coaster
19:42
at Walt Disney World. What are the ones
19:44
I can't miss?" And this is going to be
19:46
one of those you don't want to miss. And
19:49
um it'll be fun to see how that changes
19:54
the perception of the Muppets perhaps
19:56
and how it hopefully opens up new doors
19:58
for the Muppets and maybe a whole new
20:00
series because we would like more
20:02
episodes from that special. Like I think
20:04
it could be a door opener for them and a
20:06
a next step to more Muppet stuff because
20:11
it seems like from what we saw the
20:13
special, what we're seeing of the
20:15
attraction, they're getting back to
20:17
letting the Muppets be the Muppets and
20:18
that is when they're the most fun.
20:21
Again, we're just going to go into Katie
20:23
Lure tonight. Um I became a fan of the
20:26
Muppets because growing up I went to
20:29
Muppet Vision 3D at Disney California
20:31
Adventure Disney's. Sorry, Disney's
20:33
don't forget the apostrophe. That was
20:34
the era I was growing up in. Um, but
20:37
it's like truly it was, so to speak, an
20:41
ends, a mean to an ends. Um, it was a I
20:44
needed to sit down somewhere and this
20:45
was a big room where I could sit down in
20:47
a comfy chair with air conditioning. Um,
20:50
but like I became so enthralled with
20:53
Muppet Vision and I that was like and I
20:58
know this may be sacrilegious. That was
21:00
my introduction to the Muppets. That's
21:03
what it did for me.
21:04
>> Got to be I mean there's worse places to
21:07
be introduced to the Muppets than seeing
21:08
Swedoms walking right in front of you.
21:10
But I also think that like when
21:14
something like that has the opportunity
21:16
like with Sabrina Carpenter special um
21:18
and it does have the opportunity to
21:20
reach different people, I want it to be
21:21
so authentically Muppets
21:23
>> and this feels authentically
21:25
>> Muppets. I think it will be. So I'm
21:27
excited.
21:27
>> Yeah, it'll be great.
21:28
>> All right, moving right along.
21:31
>> Star Wars. There's a new movie coming
21:33
out this week. It's called The
21:34
Mandalorian and Grou. We will be
21:35
watching it. And if you listen to DAPS
21:39
Magic, Disney, and positive stuff this
21:40
weekend, there will be a in-depth review
21:43
with me and DC.
21:46
But before we get that far, there's
21:48
stuff happening in the parks. There is a
21:50
new show called The Curious Child where
21:52
it's basically Grou playing with the
21:55
Force or exploring his powers to
21:58
basically tell his story with Mando in
22:02
projection form uh over the Millennium
22:05
Falcon. like it's it's a lot of shadow I
22:08
guess and light and um so I went in it
22:12
it was announced on Friday and I grabbed
22:14
a reservation late Friday night for
22:16
Saturday because that was the first day.
22:18
So, I went in and hung out with Clocky
22:19
and Misty for a little bit and then ran
22:21
on over to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and
22:24
uh found a place where I was normally
22:26
going to go up above was all blocked off
22:28
and there was lights, but it was a
22:30
little weird because I didn't see any
22:31
camera equipment. So, I was like, oh,
22:32
okay. I don't know. They're doing
22:34
something up there.
22:34
>> You texted me, I think they're filming
22:36
something with the picture of the setup
22:38
and I went, oh, okay.
22:39
>> But I also didn't think they were
22:41
filming something because it just didn't
22:42
make sense. Like the whole thing didn't
22:44
Usually there's tripods and stuff. Yeah.
22:47
And
22:47
>> that wasn't there. So, um then this is
22:50
like an hour before the um the first
22:53
show and standing there waiting,
22:56
nothing's happening, nothing's
22:57
happening. Probably five minutes before
23:01
uh Shadows of Memories starts, they
23:03
start doing like light tests for for
23:06
photos. Like a photographer showed up.
23:08
So, I'm like, "Oh, okay. They're gonna
23:09
take pictures. That that makes sense."
23:11
So then literally right as the show is
23:14
about to start out walks Dave Fona, John
23:17
Favro, Sigourney Weaver, and Pedro
23:19
Pascal. And the crowd goes crazy. And I
23:24
don't actually know if I'm going to post
23:26
the first or the video of Shadows of
23:28
Memory because as it was going crazy,
23:31
everybody's looking around and, you
23:33
know, the video is not that great.
23:36
But it was a very fun moment. And so
23:39
they wave a little bit and the show
23:41
starts. People are still screaming and
23:43
and they they just watch the show and
23:46
then they watch uh The Curious Child as
23:48
well. And then afterwards uh they're
23:50
waving and taking pictures and you know
23:53
some social media videos that you've
23:54
probably seen online, including ours.
23:57
And somebody throws up a little Grou
23:59
plush and Pedro Pascal kisses it and
24:02
then holds him out kind of Lion King
24:03
style. And it just is one of those fun
24:06
little moments that that really was com
24:09
like it was scripted, but the best part
24:11
of it was the unscripted part. It was
24:13
how they interacted with these fans that
24:16
had no clue anything was happening and
24:18
it was just one of those really special
24:19
things. Also turned out, and I don't
24:21
know if these are related, little boy
24:23
next to me, 13 years old, on the phone
24:26
with mother, grandmother, I don't know
24:27
who it was, um, apparently was stuck on
24:30
Millennium Falcon Smuggler's R. And I
24:33
was like, why is he stuck? And I'm
24:36
looking over to my left and I'm like,
24:37
it's not down. Like, people are still
24:39
going in. People are still coming out.
24:42
So, um, what also happens sometime on
24:45
Saturday night is Pedro M Pascal dressed
24:48
up as Mando and surprised a bunch of
24:51
people. This little boy was not among
24:53
them. But I'm wondering if in the
24:56
process of making a space to be able to
24:59
do this,
25:00
he got to sit in the Millennium Falcon a
25:03
little bit longer than planned because
25:05
they couldn't, you know, you couldn't
25:07
have people go certain places or
25:09
whatever. I don't know. This is purely
25:11
speculation,
25:13
but who knows? Like, and he got out
25:15
probably 20 minutes before the show
25:17
started. So, you know, it would have
25:18
been enough time for Pedro to get out of
25:21
costume and and
25:23
be with the rest of the crowd for for
25:25
the show. So, I don't know. But I
25:27
thought it was a fun little moment they
25:28
had. Uh the fun the most fun though was
25:31
just all of these people that had no
25:33
clue what was happening suddenly
25:34
realizing like the Mandalorian is there
25:37
himself. Sigourney Weaver, Dave Fona,
25:40
who we just love, and uh and also John
25:43
Fau who's incredible and everything. I
25:46
mean, Happy was right there. And um and
25:48
the vibe for that show was amazing. And
25:51
then afterwards, like everybody was just
25:52
buzzing and uh I did feel a little bit
25:54
bad because my friend Adam walked up
25:56
literally right after it all happened.
25:58
He was like, "What was going on up
25:59
there?" And I'm like, "Well," and and he
26:03
kind of saw it, but he didn't get to
26:05
really like he missed it by that much.
26:08
Um but super cool and I love when they
26:11
do things. It reminded me kind of of
26:12
when the Pirates of the Caribbean thing
26:14
in 2017. I think it was 2017 when Johnny
26:17
Depp surprised people as Captain Jack
26:20
Sparrow in the attraction. People are
26:21
just going by and suddenly he's alive.
26:23
And um I just think those those little
26:27
magical moments really are a whole lot
26:29
of fun when they pull them off. And and
26:31
>> I do think that the Johnny Depp in
26:34
Pirates had its own special edge cuz
26:37
there had been this like wives tale of
26:40
like you know sometimes Johnny Depp is
26:43
just like in the attraction sneaks in
26:44
there. Yeah.
26:45
>> Yeah. And like it was this thing that
26:46
was kind of passed around. It had never
26:47
actually happened
26:49
>> that we know.
26:50
>> Yeah. That we were aware of. people
26:52
would be like, "Oh, you know, I think
26:53
that might have heard that might have
26:55
just been Johnny Depp." And then it
26:57
actually happened. And you know, the
26:59
first person to come off the attraction
27:01
was like, "Johnny Depp's in there." And
27:02
they're like,
27:03
>> "Sure, pal."
27:04
>> Yeah, he is.
27:06
>> Um, but I do think it's such a special
27:08
moment. Um, I actually was just thinking
27:10
the video reminded me of on May the 4th,
27:13
Ashley Xeen got to surprise cast members
27:15
at Millennium Falcon
27:16
>> and I was like to me Millennium Falcon
27:19
is one of the best places inside
27:21
Galaxy's Edge. Um, because it does feel
27:24
so faithful and this is goes back into
27:27
the timeline stuff and whatever. No
27:28
matter what iteration of Star Wars you
27:30
love, you know the inside of the
27:31
Millennium Falcon. Like you know the
27:33
hollow chest, you know all of that. and
27:36
it doesn't really affect which which uh
27:41
trilogy you line yourself with.
27:43
>> Falcon's the Falcon.
27:45
>> And so there's this special piece of
27:46
Star Wars magic. And so getting to see
27:48
Pedro do it, getting to see Ashley do
27:50
it, and getting to see people that are
27:52
like so excited about Star Wars, getting
27:56
to have that experience,
27:58
um I think is really cool. And
28:02
I I love Star Wars. I'm on video crying
28:04
and saying I love Star Wars. Okay.
28:05
>> So, can I put my produ producer hat on
28:07
for just a second?
28:08
>> Sure.
28:08
>> So, if I had have been in charge.
28:10
>> Okay. If you were in charge,
28:12
>> I would have had it of group of five,
28:14
please.
28:16
Group of five comes in. They go the
28:18
normal, you know, they're in the the
28:21
what is that area where the table is and
28:23
everything in the holding area.
28:26
>> Then you go and you're walking in.
28:28
You're getting the the speech from Hondo
28:30
on the screen
28:31
>> and then the door opens
28:34
>> and they're sitting in the pilot seat.
28:36
>> Oh yeah.
28:37
>> Is Mando and you're already geeking out
28:41
because you're like, "Oh, they put the
28:43
Mando."
28:43
>> That's pretty cool. I don't think this
28:45
ever happened.
28:46
>> And then he turns around, takes off the
28:49
helmet.
28:49
>> Yeah.
28:50
>> And literally
28:51
people lose their mind. Like they lost
28:53
their minds for this. But can you
28:55
imagine? You don't have to say a word.
28:57
Yeah.
28:57
>> You have a couple GoPros hidden up in
28:59
the corners. Like people would be going
29:02
insane. Like it would be And then you do
29:05
it like three or four times.
29:06
>> Oh yeah.
29:07
>> And then never again. And you just let
29:09
like And then And then you don't release
29:11
the video until opening day of the movie
29:15
because then if there are little social
29:17
media videos getting out there, people
29:19
are going to freak out and try to get on
29:20
the ride as much as they can. So, you're
29:22
going to give it a good boost at the end
29:24
and and then you reveal it actually was
29:27
a thing by releasing the produced, you
29:29
know, the the Lucas film version.
29:31
>> Yeah.
29:32
>> With the opening of the movie. And I
29:34
think that would be so hilarious. Like,
29:36
that's just me, my little producer role.
29:39
Um,
29:40
>> if you if you want more ideas, Disney,
29:42
call me. I'm more than happy to help.
29:43
Um,
29:45
but I thought this was very fun and and
29:47
I wouldn't have traded it for the world
29:49
because it really was a special moment.
29:51
But speaking of special moments, it is
29:53
now time for
30:00
comments. Comments.
30:03
That's right. It's time for comments.
30:05
So, if you have anything you would like
30:07
us to respond to, let us know in the
30:09
comments and we will search through
30:11
those. I was going to say seek through
30:13
the I don't know what I was going to
30:14
say. Um anyway, we will take our our
30:17
time and take a look at these comments
30:19
and uh respond to them as we can. Um I
30:23
am going to see I did see one earlier
30:24
from Bailey. Um and Bailey was asking
30:28
why I was laughing that is on brand for
30:30
them for the do you think we are going
30:32
to get uh get the joke about Hari
30:34
Krishna and I was laughing because I
30:36
hope they do it. Um I think that would
30:38
be
30:39
>> was that in response to something else?
30:41
>> Oh maybe I thought it was to that. Um
30:43
>> I feel like I remember it being Oh. Uh
30:46
it was the Airstream
30:49
the the Gulfream.
30:50
>> I could picture my grandparents in it.
30:51
>> Yeah. Like that is on print for them.
30:53
>> That was Yeah.
30:53
>> I was like, "Wait, no. I I attached this
30:55
somewhere."
30:56
>> Yeah. Um are we getting any previews for
30:58
Saurin in California? doesn't look like
31:00
it because
31:02
um I was looking on the calendar the
31:04
other day and it looks like it soaring
31:07
over California is is running up until
31:10
like the day before two days before
31:13
Saurin across America begins. So, um
31:18
I don't know, maybe not. I my guess is
31:21
not. Um I wish we would. I think that
31:23
would be really fun and I really would
31:25
like to see it firsthand because I do
31:27
think it's very different to see it on a
31:30
YouTube video than it is
31:33
in person.
31:34
>> I'll say something weird.
31:35
>> Okay, go ahead.
31:36
>> I want to smell it
31:37
>> and or smell it and feel it like
31:39
whatever they are.
31:39
>> I want to smell it.
31:41
>> Let me smell the attraction. I love the
31:43
question from Caleb who's asking what I
31:46
think about the new background and you
31:47
also background music that's going to be
31:51
part of the magic of Disney animation. I
31:53
want to hear the entire thing. Like we
31:55
got we got this much and it was just
31:57
enough to make me want a whole lot more.
31:59
And I'm like I love that you're doing
32:01
this. Why are you teasing me with this
32:04
much? I want I want to hear the entire
32:06
loop. And I'm sure somebody's going to
32:07
record it and post it. Mouse steps,
32:09
please. And um um I don't know that if
32:13
they do that actually, but I would love
32:14
it. And um that is one I would I would
32:18
definitely love to listen to. Um are are
32:21
you going to get the Lego set? Uh two
32:25
problems.
32:27
One, it's $399.
32:28
>> That That is problem one.
32:30
>> That's not actually the biggest problem.
32:31
>> It's not the biggest problem.
32:32
>> The biggest problem is it would fill up
32:34
most of this table. And um that that
32:39
could be a trick. Like storage would be
32:42
an issue. And it's the same reason I
32:45
don't have the Enterprise D.
32:47
>> Mhm.
32:47
>> It it's just that like I don't want to
32:49
build it and then immediately have to
32:51
take it apart and not have it on display
32:54
anyway because I think that one would be
32:58
such a a perfect one on display. I mean,
33:01
it even has Walt's like it has the
33:03
firehouse with Walt's apartment. It has
33:05
the fire truck. It, you know, it's got
33:07
everything.
33:08
>> What's really funny,
33:10
this Lego set has everything.
33:13
Walt's apartment. Um, anyway, sorry.
33:15
That's if you were tracking with me,
33:18
thanks. If you weren't, I don't blame
33:19
you. Um, it's fine.
33:21
>> Okay.
33:22
>> Uh, the hardest part. This is a fun
33:26
little behind the scenes.
33:28
>> The Lego set is missing a mailbox.
33:29
>> It is. Uh anyway, to finish the sentence
33:32
I had started, the fun little behind the
33:34
scenes is that one of the hardest parts
33:37
of moving from the uh previous studio to
33:40
the current studio
33:42
is we built so many Lego sets a lot.
33:47
Thank you for tracking on Stefan with
33:48
me. Um yeah, uh transporting Lego to a
33:53
secondary location does prove quite
33:56
difficult actually.
33:57
>> Such is life.
33:58
>> Yeah. Yeah. Um, looking forward to
34:01
seeing that meme for Daps After Dark. We
34:04
are doing something very different for
34:06
Daps After Dark tonight. We will see if
34:08
it works. It may not. Um, but it'll be
34:10
an adventure either way. Like, we may
34:12
hate it. We don't know. It's It's going
34:14
to be different. That's all I'm going to
34:15
say.
34:15
>> I don't think I'm going to hate it.
34:16
>> Um, I think it'll be fun. It's It's a
34:18
test for something bigger. That is my
34:20
clue. Um, but I think we are running out
34:23
of time. So, what should people do,
34:24
Katie?
