Welcome to Geeks Corner. I'm Mr. Daps.
0:20
>> I'm Katie.
0:20
>> And did you know that Tinkerbell is the
0:23
godmother of the Disney Wonder?
0:25
>> I did not know that.
0:26
>> Surprise.
0:27
>> Whoa.
0:28
>> Now you know. I know that.
0:30
>> The more you know.
0:32
>> Yeah, that's magical.
0:33
>> That is Yeah, I thought it was fun.
0:35
>> Well, that's wonderful.
0:36
>> It's Yes. Lots of puns. We will see how
0:41
this goes. Uh, for sure. But, uh, what
0:45
should people do, Katie?
0:46
>> Uh, you should go to dapsmagic.com,
0:50
right? Is that is that what we do here?
0:54
You should go
0:56
and subscribe here where you're
0:58
watching. I'm so confused. I almost
1:00
ended the show.
1:02
Uh, you also should, uh, it's been a
1:06
long time. Leave me alone. Go to daps
1:08
hq.com. We have a post show to this
1:10
show. Hey, it's also where we have a
1:12
whole lot of stuff from the Disney
1:14
Wonder. That was pretty magical. Um, and
1:18
also go into the chat because we have a
1:21
segment at the end for comments.
1:24
>> Yeah. So, if you have any questions or
1:26
comments that you'd like us to talk
1:27
about with the Disney Wonder in
1:29
particular, put them in the comments and
1:32
we will revisit them at the end. And I
1:34
should note that this is just part of
1:36
bigger coverage of our trip on the
1:38
Disney Wonder. We also have already a
1:41
podcast up that's DAPS, Magic, Disney,
1:42
and Positive Stuff. We will have another
1:45
podcast up in about a week or so um that
1:49
will have Johnny and me talking about
1:52
both of our trips on the Disney Wonder.
1:53
And this will be probably the most
1:56
indepth
1:58
conversation about the Disney Wonder
1:59
because we're not constrained by time.
2:01
So I would expect that one to go a full
2:03
hour and it will be every day, every
2:06
activity, all of that fun stuff. We're
2:08
going to give you some of our highlights
2:09
tonight for uh Geeks Corner. But there's
2:12
a lot of ground to cover. So, we're
2:13
going to get right on it and we're going
2:15
to start with news that impacts the
2:17
Disney Wonder and that is that the
2:19
Disney Cruise Line and San Diego
2:22
extended their agreement through 2031,
2:25
which means that there's going to be a
2:26
lot more Disney Cruise Line happening in
2:29
San Diego in the next 5 years. In fact,
2:32
they were telling us on the ship that
2:34
they expect about a million more
2:36
passengers just from Disney Cruise Line
2:39
alone
2:40
to uh go through San Diego in the next 5
2:43
years, which
2:44
>> wow,
2:45
>> that's pretty wacky.
2:46
>> That's That is a lot. And why I bring
2:48
this up is because obviously our trip
2:51
began and ended at San Diego, the port,
2:54
I think it's called Bport or something
2:55
like that. I don't know. But it's right
2:57
downtown. It's literally walking
2:59
distance from the airport. And I can
3:01
tell you this for a fact because we
3:03
found out that somebody on was it a week
3:04
or two ago?
3:05
>> Yeah.
3:06
>> Literally decided they were going to
3:07
walk to the airport since they had extra
3:10
time and it took him an hour
3:11
>> and it was a nice day. They said why
3:12
not?
3:12
>> They said it was a stroll. Um
3:16
uh ask away Chris. It would be great. Um
3:21
so this is literally where the ship
3:24
comes in. Actually both the the magic
3:26
and the wonder were coming in while we
3:28
were there. Um, it's literally right
3:32
downtown. It's it's walking distance
3:34
from like it's two births over from the
3:36
midway if you know where that is. And
3:39
there's tons of different parking
3:41
options around in the area which was
3:43
really nice. I think all of them are
3:45
somehow connected to ACE parking. Um, we
3:47
parked at the Intercontinental which was
3:49
right across the street. There was
3:50
another spot right to the would that be
3:53
south maybe east? I don't know. Just
3:54
down the way a little bit. Like there
3:56
were parking spots all over the place,
3:57
which was interesting because as we were
4:00
walking over to the ship, we were
4:03
noticing all these other people kind of
4:05
converging from different directions as
4:07
opposed to everybody being in one spot
4:09
and just,
4:11
>> you know, making a beline for the ship.
4:14
And um it was great one because I just
4:18
think it set the vibe for the cruise
4:19
really well. like San Diego has that
4:21
nice touristy place down by the the
4:24
marina and the ports and um and it just
4:28
it it was it was a great place to show
4:30
up the day before and enjoy, you know,
4:35
seeing like we walked around what's that
4:37
called?
4:38
>> Seapport village or something. We walked
4:40
around there. We saw the midway. We
4:43
enjoyed the sunset. We went up to there
4:44
was a rooftop bar that we went to in the
4:46
Hyatt that was amazing. If you're a
4:48
baseball person, Padre Stadium is right
4:50
there.
4:51
>> You could walk to all of this.
4:53
>> Like Petco Park
4:55
>> right up there. It's so close to so many
4:58
different activities, which I think is
4:59
something um we loved the Port of Los
5:02
Angeles, but Port of Los Angeles is
5:04
really like it is a trek to get there
5:06
and it is a trek to get out of there
5:08
before you're even like close to
5:10
anything.
5:10
>> And there was um definitely
5:14
like there's no hotels right there. Yes.
5:17
>> Like the thing I think the play is with
5:19
this to be completely honest is if I
5:22
were from anywhere not in Southern
5:24
California,
5:26
>> the way you do it is you either start in
5:28
San Diego and you fly in, you stay at
5:31
one of the hotels that are right there
5:33
by the water. They're beautiful. Hop on
5:35
the ship, enjoy your cruise three, four,
5:37
seven days, whatever it is. then take
5:40
Amtrak up to Anaheim, get off there, go
5:44
to Disneyland for a couple days, and
5:46
then fly home out of, you know, John
5:48
Wayne
5:50
>> airport of choosing.
5:51
>> Long. Yeah. Ontario or LAX. Um probably
5:54
in that order. Um
5:56
you could John Wayne and and Long Beach
5:58
are interchangeable. Um but but I think
6:00
that's the play. Or vice versa. You
6:02
start at the Disneyland, take the train
6:04
down the coast cuz the train station is
6:07
right there. like it was it was really
6:10
eye opening to see how accessible
6:12
everything was. And I've done quite a
6:16
few um trips around to to different
6:20
places where cruises are, I guess, is a
6:21
good way to put it. And whether it's
6:23
work or nonprofit or whatever, and I
6:26
think this one might be one of the
6:29
easiest to get from an airport to a
6:31
cruise. Um so that was that was really I
6:36
thought it was fantastic. Um, then we
6:38
got on the ship
6:40
after I lost my glasses.
6:44
>> Lost in a temporary sense.
6:46
>> I mean, I have them again.
6:47
>> Not lost in a permanent sense.
6:50
>> Uh, don't worry, there is an article
6:51
coming about what to do if you lose your
6:53
glasses before you get on a Disney
6:54
cruise ship.
6:55
>> I do have the answer.
6:57
>> In fact, I believe I'm the first person
7:00
to have the answer because
7:02
>> because we were googling
7:04
>> because we were googling it. Nobody had
7:05
it. We were talking to people that, you
7:08
know, our Disney people and they didn't
7:09
know it and and we found a surprising
7:11
answer. We will get to that later, but
7:13
um
7:14
>> the answer may shock you.
7:16
>> It sure shocked me. But uh so we got on
7:19
the cruise. It was great. They do the
7:20
whole like uh welcome aboard thing and
7:23
that's great. And we got our ice cream
7:26
and
7:26
>> the ice cream which is self serve.
7:30
>> Oh yes, self- serve ice cream which was
7:32
great. Um I had a twist every time. You
7:35
got uh vanilla.
7:36
>> Vanilla every time. Uh we didn't try the
7:38
fancy flavors. That might be whenever
7:40
the next cruise is. Mainly because I was
7:43
so happy with my twist.
7:44
>> There was like mint and banana and
7:48
>> I've heard the banana's good. I should
7:49
have tried it.
7:50
>> See, not for me. But
7:52
>> you're not a banana person. I'm not a
7:54
banana person.
7:54
>> Just banana ball.
7:55
>> I love banana ball. But I could totally
7:58
see if they had I don't think they were
8:00
on the same machine, but if the mint and
8:01
the chocolate were on the same machine,
8:03
getting a mint chocolate swirl, I could
8:05
see how that would appeal to somebody.
8:06
Not me. I could see how that would
8:08
appeal to somebody. I did like that. Uh
8:11
it was a very
8:13
it was a a very expansive ice cream
8:16
machine. There was like six things.
8:19
Yeah, there was there was three there
8:21
was three machines and you know they
8:24
would have you two of the stations had
8:27
vanilla, chocolate and twist and then
8:29
the middle one had whatever the
8:30
specialty ice cream were and it was
8:32
great. Um the ship itself is not the
8:34
biggest ship in the world which I
8:35
thought was wonderful.
8:36
>> I was delighted. Um there was I did the
8:39
tour of the ship uh one of the mornings
8:41
and learned about how um the globe
8:45
always faces towards the front and the
8:47
stars are pointing towards the front of
8:48
the ship and how the if you look at the
8:51
medallions in the middle of the carpet
8:53
in the main rooms, it tells you
8:55
>> where you can um or where you're at in
8:58
the ship, like if you're in the front,
9:00
the middle, or the back. and and I
9:02
thought that was pretty cool for being a
9:07
aged ship. I guess you could say it
9:09
really didn't feel like it was old. Um
9:12
we've been on younger ships that I felt
9:14
like felt older from different cruise
9:16
lines and it was very well taken care
9:19
of. You saw people taking care of it
9:21
every day. Um whether they were painting
9:23
or sanding or
9:26
>> pressure washing. This this ship is 28
9:30
this year cuz she was in 98. Um we went
9:35
on a ship uh recently that was in 2014
9:38
and that ship creaked more than this one
9:40
did.
9:41
>> Yeah. Yeah. Uh much much much more.
9:43
>> It was very
9:44
>> And this one had much smaller elevators.
9:46
So if you're not a fan of small
9:47
elevators, that is one thing I will say.
9:50
>> Enjoy the enjoy the stairs.
9:52
>> It was cramped. It was very like it said
9:54
the capacity was eight I believe. I
9:57
don't I don't know that I could do eight
9:59
people in that elevator.
10:00
>> I I think that would be I think we did
10:03
do it once and it was not super fun.
10:05
Thankfully there was kids. Um which
10:07
there's kids everywhere and and I will
10:10
say this this just to be completely
10:12
honest.
10:14
>> They always say there's not that many
10:16
kids or you can get away from them on
10:17
the Disney cruise. I call malarkey. I
10:21
did not experience that.
10:22
>> There were kids everywhere. It was fine.
10:24
Like it it was what it was like
10:26
Disneyland. Like yeah, it's kind of like
10:28
saying you're not going to maybe if if
10:31
you were in concierge or something, you
10:32
could get away from kids. But um the
10:35
only time there weren't really kids
10:37
around, we went to um the adults area
10:40
lounge and those did work really well.
10:42
Like that was where I think that is
10:44
accurate and you can get away from
10:45
there. But even during the day, there
10:47
were still kids coming through and there
10:49
was a little bit of of of shenanigans
10:52
happening, I think, sometimes, but it
10:54
wasn't stressful.
10:55
>> But both of us have heard over the
10:57
years, oh, you don't notice. Oh, there's
11:00
barely any.
11:00
>> I think that's an overstatement.
11:02
>> I agree. Uh, and and again, we are by no
11:06
means is this an anti-child zone. We are
11:10
very pro-child. We are very pro- family.
11:13
>> I just think it's being realistic.
11:14
>> I agree. I think that uh if you are
11:17
somebody that maybe is like, "Oh, you
11:19
know, cruises are like my getaway spot.
11:21
I like to find a nice quiet area." If
11:24
you are over 18,
11:25
>> you can kind of find those.
11:26
>> Do that in the adult area. Yeah.
11:28
>> Yes. Um but if it's a huge deal to you,
11:31
I would say go on Princess because
11:33
there's there's no good, zero at all. Um
11:38
>> the the ship itself I thought was very
11:41
well taken care of. I love the updates
11:43
they've done through the years. like
11:44
French Quarter was gorgeous.
11:46
>> Tiana's was a blast. We'll get into the
11:48
food in a little bit.
11:50
>> Um the the pub and the Cadillac lounge,
11:54
>> gorgeous. Like they did
11:56
>> The great thing about those two is they
11:58
were right up in the bow, so you moved
12:00
around a little bit. Like it was it was
12:01
very relaxing. It was very fun. Themed
12:04
was great. In the pub itself, there were
12:06
so many references to British Disney
12:09
movies, whether like
12:11
Muppet uh the great Muppet Caper was all
12:14
over the place in there. Uh they had
12:17
references to um 101 Dalmatians to the
12:21
uh to uh Doctor Who, Mary Poppins. In
12:24
fact, her umbrella is somewhere. Johnny,
12:26
when you go on the ship, you can go look
12:28
for that, but don't ask.
12:29
>> Um yeah, Mr. Toad. Like there were so
12:32
many fun references found throughout.
12:34
And um and then Cadillac Lounge was very
12:38
very cars, you know, like it was it was
12:40
fantastic,
12:40
>> but not not cars kachchow.
12:44
>> No, it it was it was like doc like I it
12:47
had that like
12:48
>> but it it
12:49
>> it was regal like it was it was nice.
12:51
>> It's not Pixar cars. Yes. It's just like
12:55
classic cars.
12:55
>> I think it was remotely I think it was
12:58
connected.
12:58
>> Sure. But it's not.
13:00
>> But it wasn't it wasn't cartoony. It was
13:02
a reference to like it was it was real
13:04
life. Um
13:06
>> catow.
13:08
>> Yeah, it was great. Uh the the pool
13:11
areas were nice. The cove, I think it
13:13
was called the coffee area. Very cute.
13:15
>> Cove cafe.
13:16
>> Cove cafe. That's it. Uh very cute. I
13:19
loved there's a deck that wraps around.
13:21
I think on deck nine or something, maybe
13:23
it's 10.
13:23
>> 10. that uh you can go around the bow
13:25
and actually look straight forward. If
13:27
you look on our Instagram, the DAPS
13:29
magic one, you can see a video of that
13:30
today.
13:31
>> Past the glass.
13:32
>> It was so cool
13:33
>> because that's something that we
13:34
normally don't get to do. We go as far
13:36
as it'll let us. And then
13:37
>> which I will say in Ensanata that was
13:39
very windy. So, um
13:41
>> we almost blew away.
13:42
>> Yeah, that was that was an adventure.
13:44
But, uh before we get into everything,
13:47
let's talk about the room actually real
13:48
quick. First is uh we had a lovely
13:52
veranda. Johnny could probably tell you
13:54
what specifically the the room was.
13:56
>> State room category,
13:57
>> but it was great because it had the
13:59
queen the queen-siz bed. It had the
14:02
couch and then it had a thing that you
14:03
could pull down from the ceiling, I
14:05
think for the fourth person and maybe
14:07
even fifth, I don't know. Um it was it
14:10
was very cool.
14:12
I loved the quality of the room and this
14:16
really was throughout the whole ship,
14:18
>> but it, you know, whether it was actual
14:20
tile in the bathroom or actual wood on
14:23
the furniture, like it felt very
14:28
nautical and classic and real and I I
14:31
thought that was one of the highlights
14:32
of the ship personally. Even one of the
14:34
biggest things I want to say about the
14:35
room because we have cruised quite a bit
14:38
together is that there are definitely
14:40
the um the stateateroom decor that is
14:43
like oh hotel clip art of like oh there
14:47
was one stateateroom we were in where
14:49
there's like a lady playing golf.
14:50
>> Oh yeah there's there's weird art
14:52
>> and it didn't really make any sense
14:53
>> and this was fantastic. Uh, and this was
14:56
all like, oh, Mark Davis concept art for
14:58
Pirates and uh, Walt and Lillian like
15:02
going on a Riviera vacation and like
15:04
even the things that weren't, oh, that's
15:07
Disney were Disney.
15:09
>> It was very cool
15:10
>> and it all felt very intentional.
15:11
>> So, there we go. We were a category 5B
15:13
Deluxe Ocean View Stateoom with Veranda.
15:16
I knew you would know.
15:18
Um, and I will also say this, the TV
15:21
tiny, but you're not really watching the
15:23
TV. What were we doing with the TV?
15:25
>> Listening to the Disney music which was
15:27
phenomenal. Like there was so much good
15:30
music played on the ship. Uh it was a
15:32
lot of classic Disney stuff with more
15:34
modern stuff sprinkled in. Really no
15:37
Disney Channel music which like other
15:39
than you know during a dance party or
15:41
something on the deck, but um
15:43
>> but it was phenomenal. Like at one
15:45
point, what was it? We were walking down
15:48
the hall on deck four and I heard was it
15:51
Feed the Birds? Oh my gosh, that night
15:54
it was our
15:54
>> something from Mary Poppins and it was
15:56
it was absolutely magical.
15:57
>> An empty deck and we were just like
15:59
>> because everything had closed by then.
16:01
It's it's a lot like the cartoon or the
16:03
cartoon commercial and and I was like,
16:05
"Well, I'm staying up late. We're doing
16:06
this." Like we got zero sleep on this
16:08
cruise. Um I think I got three hours of
16:11
sleep the last night. You know, it's
16:12
kind of like Iron Will where the first
16:14
night you get seven and the next night
16:16
is five and gets shorter and shorter
16:19
each night. But
16:20
>> it's 100%. But you want to get as much
16:22
as you can out of it. So you just you
16:24
you just keep going.
16:25
>> And there's so many magic moments and
16:26
it's something that we do on ships
16:28
anyway because we kind of like that
16:29
quiet aspect.
16:31
>> But I will I think that that is a core
16:33
memory
16:35
>> um that I will have for the rest of my
16:36
life is this late night of feed the
16:39
birds.
16:39
>> It was it was beautiful. If that was a
16:41
song, I think that was a song, but
16:42
>> it was it 100% was.
16:44
>> Uh, another song we heard, I'm going to
16:46
let you hear, is you get to watch a
16:48
brief recap
16:50
of our cruise. It's not everything, but
16:52
it gives you some highlights.
17:11
Come with me
17:16
in a world of your imagination.
17:20
Take a look and you'll see into your
17:24
imagining
17:32
in our imagination.
17:36
What will we see will defy the
17:40
explanation.
17:44
If you want to view paradise,
17:48
simply look around and view it.
17:52
Anything you want to do.
17:56
Want to change the world? There's
17:58
nothing to it.
18:01
There is no Wi-Fi
18:05
to compare with your imagination.
18:09
Living there, you'll be free if you
18:13
truly
18:15
wish to be.
18:36
You will find in your mind there's a
18:40
world of endless fasination.
18:43
No more fun place to be than in your
18:48
imagination.
18:51
You can dream any dream. You can save
18:56
every situation
18:59
like there's a sensation
19:03
sens
19:04
ation.
19:07
If you want to see,
19:11
close your eyes and you will see
19:16
a dream
19:19
anyone.
19:26
There is no place to go
19:31
to compare with your imagination.
19:36
So there to be free
19:45
to
19:55
>> let's go back
19:56
>> three minutes the whole
19:58
the whole cruise. Anyway,
20:00
>> oh man, that was lovely. That was my
20:02
brief throw things together as quick as
20:05
I can because we took so much photo and
20:08
video content that I am I'm overwhelming
20:12
my cloud and my external hard drives and
20:15
like working through it and also trying
20:16
to clean things up for uh Star Wars
20:18
night tomorrow night. So, but that that
20:21
was just a brief look at the highlights
20:22
and the music was from Katie Bell on the
20:25
Disney Wonder who is in the Cadillac
20:28
lounge. So, if you go on the on the ship
20:30
in the next few I think month or two, uh
20:32
make sure to say hi for the Daps clan
20:35
and uh that will be a lot of fun. She
20:37
was one of the amazing entertainers on
20:39
the Disney Wonder, which I will say this
20:42
is where I think one of the ways that
20:44
Disney really stands out from other
20:47
cruise lines is all of the
20:50
entertainment. Mhm.
20:52
>> Whether it's a jazz trio, whether it's
20:54
it's a solo pianist, because there was a
20:56
few of those it seemed like, whether it
20:57
was the Broadway shows, um, deck
21:00
parties, characters, you name it. Um, I
21:03
thought all of them were stellar.
21:04
>> Everything was incredible. And I I say
21:06
it in one of the videos we took, but I
21:08
was like, this is what they mean when
21:09
they say Disney is an entertainment
21:10
company. Um, and obviously you're like,
21:14
oh, of course Disney's going to have the
21:15
best shows, but like Disney has the best
21:18
shows. um whether they be the Broadway
21:21
style shows, whether they be like the uh
21:25
Till We Meet Again, the farewell moment
21:27
that you see. I walked away sobbing,
21:31
sobbing, sobbing, sobbing my eyes out.
21:33
Um because they all signed
21:36
um like they did in ASL, M I C K E Y M
21:43
O. And I just I sobbed sobbed my eyes
21:45
out. and everything is done, you can
21:47
tell with a level of passion and care
21:49
and pride. Um, that just makes it a
21:52
whole lot of fun to watch.
21:54
>> It really was surprising how invested
21:56
everybody was in the whole thing. And
21:58
when I was I got a chance to talk with
22:00
the cruise director and the uh hotel
22:02
director and they were talking about how
22:04
um working on the Disney Cruise Line
22:07
isn't really a traditional job. It's
22:10
more of a lifestyle. And I was thinking
22:12
about that. I was like, "Yeah, that
22:13
really is true." And and that kind of is
22:15
true for all sailing in general. Like
22:19
you think historically when you chose to
22:21
go on an old sailing ship that that
22:23
>> you know maybe you're going across the
22:25
Atlantic for the first time or whatever
22:26
that is. It really was that was a
22:28
lifestyle choice. You were choosing to
22:29
live on the sea. And I I think that's
22:31
something that's really carried through.
22:33
>> And for some people that's longer than
22:35
other. But my hunch is just looking in
22:38
at at the crew and the the people we
22:41
talk to on the crew
22:42
>> or in the crew that they stay longer
22:46
with Disney because it really does
22:47
become a a lifestyle that you embrace
22:50
and you love and and you continue on
22:52
with. And it it was funny hearing how
22:54
many people were like, "Oh yeah, I did
22:55
it on a whim and now 16 years later I'm
22:58
still here." Or now was it 28 year or no
23:02
30 years later? you know, some some
23:04
people were there and uh really really
23:07
impressive um on on multiple fronts uh
23:11
in that regard. Um the food we could go
23:14
and do an entire episode on, we won't.
23:18
Um I'm sure Johnny and I will talk about
23:21
it more on DAP's travels, but um what
23:24
was your favorite two things to eat on
23:28
the cruise?
23:29
>> Um the inki from Paulo.
23:31
>> Okay. cuz I am still
23:34
>> I am still dreaming about that.
23:36
>> Um, and I'm trying to think of another
23:41
yummy delicious This is going to be so
23:43
weird, but everybody stick with me here.
23:46
>> Okay,
23:47
>> it's not going to be You're going to be
23:49
like, "Oh, Katie, you had this beautiful
23:50
meal at Paulo. What else are you going
23:51
to say?" No, I'm going to say you saw me
23:54
eat them every day. The chocolate chip
23:56
muffins from Cabanas.
23:58
>> Oh, yeah. You did like those, didn't
23:59
you? I love those chocolate chip muffins
24:01
from Cabanas. I have been chasing the
24:03
high of the little chocolate chip
24:04
muffins from Topolino's Terrace for like
24:07
two years, three years, four years.
24:09
>> You found them
24:10
>> and I found them and they were so
24:13
delicious and so tasty. And I'd always
24:15
grab two. And um my favorite was like
24:18
the second to last day or the last uh
24:20
day of sailing. Um I'm grabbing the two
24:24
and the guy that's working, he goes,
24:26
"That's the best part. You have to get
24:28
two." He's like, "You should get more."
24:30
I was like, "I have to just start with
24:31
two." And he goes, "You'll be back." I
24:34
was like, "I will. Yes. I love these
24:36
chocolate chip muffins."
24:37
>> And then sometimes I'd randomly bring
24:38
people stuff, too. It was very like
24:40
they're like, "Oh, I know you like this.
24:42
Here you go."
24:42
>> Because that was what we saw all over
24:45
the place. What were your two favorite
24:47
bites?
24:48
>> Um,
24:50
you wasn't ready.
24:51
>> Probably the steak and potatoes and matt
24:54
I'm going to go with three.
24:55
>> Okay.
24:56
>> Because it they're all related for the
24:58
first one. Um, my steak, potatoes, and
25:00
mac and cheese at Pello.
25:02
>> And the mac and cheese you didn't put
25:04
with the other two, but the other two
25:05
went together. Delicious. Um, and then
25:08
my second one I'm going to go with.
25:12
Um,
25:15
I'm trying to remember what I feel like
25:17
something I really liked at Animator's
25:19
palette,
25:20
but now I'm, you know, it this, this
25:24
isn't a copout, but I loved each night
25:27
having a fresh cup of coffee with my
25:30
dessert. That would be my second thing.
25:32
>> It was It was good coffee.
25:33
>> Um, it was always, you could tell they
25:35
just did it. It was piping hot, which is
25:37
how I love my coffee. And um you know
25:40
whether it was beignes or chocolate you
25:44
know like they just creme brulee even
25:46
like
25:48
solid. Um
25:48
>> a nice cup of coffee compliments a whole
25:50
lot.
25:50
>> It was it was fantastic. And then the
25:52
third thing I would say is the uh or
25:54
fourth thing actually is the um uh I had
25:58
them every morning for breakfast. Jenny
26:00
likes them.
26:00
>> Oh, eggs Benedict.
26:01
>> Eggs Benedict. I totally
26:03
>> Jenny likes them.
26:04
>> Yeah.
26:04
>> Hi Jenny.
26:05
>> Yeah. Um
26:06
>> you're the eggs benedict. But I had eggs
26:07
benedict every morning. It was
26:08
fantastic. Like it was such a wonderful
26:10
thing. The French onion soup was
26:12
delicious. We did have that. It was
26:14
definitely
26:15
>> way up there as well.
26:16
>> One of the best French onion soups we've
26:17
ever had.
26:18
>> As we're running out of time because we
26:20
do have to have time for questions. We
26:22
do need to talk about the destinations
26:24
and the excursions. And uh we will, as
26:27
I've mentioned several times, be going
26:28
more into this on Daps Travels. But
26:30
>> I feel like I have to come on Dav's
26:31
travels.
26:32
>> There you go. Um we'll have to ask we'll
26:34
have to ask that other co-host.
26:35
>> Johnny, please. Um Can I come?
26:38
>> But uh anyway, so this cruise in
26:41
particular had one at Sea Day, then we
26:44
were at Catalina, and then we were in
26:45
Ensanata.
26:46
>> In Catalina, we went on a bison
26:49
adventure. And you saw videos of that.
26:53
>> You take a a Hummer that's got basically
26:56
four levels because the drivers in the
26:58
front, then there's a second level where
27:00
there's there's you could probably fit
27:02
what, four people.
27:03
>> Yes. And then uh third level, four
27:05
people. And then uh the last level I
27:08
think could pit fit five it looked like.
27:11
And we didn't have a completely full
27:12
Hummer. That was fine. Um we had a
27:15
perfectly lovely driver named Joy who
27:18
also was a little bit of a a speed
27:20
demon. Those
27:22
>> were going to be my exact words. um uh
27:25
which got a little exciting at times
27:27
when you're driving along these ledges
27:29
that the only thing that would stop you
27:31
from going over said ledge is a tree um
27:34
or an really old rickety uh fence that's
27:39
made out of wood. Like there there was
27:42
>> I can't I can't picture like how that
27:46
ends well. And thankfully I've never
27:48
heard of it not ending well. So that was
27:50
my consolation. Um, but then we get up
27:52
there. First we went to the airport.
27:54
Fantastic. Super cool.
27:56
>> Um, they had a DC3 out there that was
27:58
from when they made the airport. Really
28:01
cool. Gorgeous. I'll have pictures of
28:03
that up at some point.
28:04
>> Then we got to see the bison and there
28:06
was like 25 of them. I think they said
28:09
they were so cool. Um, I have seen
28:12
buffalo before at Yellowstone and in
28:15
Midwest places. And uh and these were a
28:18
little bit more spindly, I guess, like
28:21
they're a little bit thinner and
28:22
whatever. Very calm. Clearly used to
28:24
cars going up there. Like they kind of
28:26
didn't care. It was very
28:28
>> like, "Oh, great, another one." You
28:30
know, it whatever. But, um, I would say
28:34
this is if you're only going to do one
28:36
excursion for a trip, this is the one
28:39
because it's going to be so memorable
28:41
and and it's not like you're just going
28:43
and having a meal or you're going to a
28:46
vineyard, you know, like there's lots of
28:47
different options for different um,
28:50
excursions. And I was really glad Disney
28:52
put us on this one just because it's not
28:55
something I would naturally have been
28:56
like, "Oh, let's go see Bison." Because
28:58
I was like, "Well, I've seen him in in
29:00
Yellow or Buffalo." Yellowstone
29:05
history.
29:10
It did get a little cool, but it was it
29:12
was very impressive.
29:13
>> Yeah, there were blankets though.
29:14
>> What do you think?
29:15
>> Um, I was amazed by it. I think that um
29:17
yes, it the thing is it is like
29:19
Kilamanjaro Safari. You are not
29:21
guaranteed
29:24
to see any animal. Um, I think that if
29:28
you saw no animals, you are going to see
29:30
some really incredible views of
29:32
Catalina. Um, I'm
29:33
>> I took so many pictures.
29:35
>> I'm somebody that's only ever been in
29:37
Avalon. Um, and so to go like and see
29:41
the island from a totally different
29:42
perspective was amazing. Um, I loved the
29:46
airport. I thought the airport was
29:48
insane. I also loved really learning the
29:49
history of Catalina and like
29:52
>> the fact that the Chicago Cubs did
29:53
spring training in like the 30s in
29:55
Catalina. I didn't know that.
29:57
>> I want to see that movie. Like that
29:59
would be a fun movie.
30:00
>> I want to see them at the casino like
30:02
just playing baseball. I'm sure that's
30:04
not where they were doing spring
30:04
training, but it's fine.
30:05
>> I did wonder where it was. I'm betting
30:07
it's where the schoolers or something.
30:09
>> Uh but no, it was uh it was just really
30:12
really fun. And it was one of those
30:14
things where I was like, when else in my
30:16
life am I going to do this? Uh, and it
30:19
was very fun. I had a really great time.
30:23
And the whole time I was kind of like, I
30:25
get to see this. Like the water was
30:29
beautiful. The weather was stunning.
30:30
Like every single
30:32
>> I think we got everything right aligned
30:35
for us from what cuz she was talking
30:37
about how it had been cloudy and rainy
30:40
and all this other stuff. I'm like, that
30:41
would not necessarily be a good time.
30:43
Like, I could imagine that being a
30:45
frigid, cold,
30:48
you're going to be wanting lots of
30:50
coffee or hot cocoa because you're
30:52
freezing. Um, but no, it was fantastic.
30:54
We didn't do an excursion to Ensanata
30:55
because we decided we really wanted more
30:57
time on the ship. And and I would say
30:59
for the three and four night cruises,
31:01
you do want to balance that out because
31:02
it does um it goes by fast and there are
31:06
so many fun things to do on the cruise
31:09
and or on the ship that you you'd miss
31:12
out on if you left the ship. So, we were
31:14
I think we made the right choice by not
31:15
going on the second one. Um, and like it
31:19
kind of reaffirmed my my opinion that
31:23
the sweet spot for cruises are really a
31:25
week.
31:26
>> We've been saying it
31:27
>> like I I love a week-l long cruise. But
31:29
um but you know the four night was
31:32
fantastic. I think a three night would
31:34
be great too and um it was it was very
31:37
gracious of of Disney to invite us and
31:39
and we had a blast. So thank you Disney.
31:41
And with that it is time for
31:49
Comments. Comments.
31:52
That is right. It is time for comments.
31:54
I'm going to scroll through and hit all
31:56
of the Disney Cruise one as well as we
31:58
can. Um,
32:02
okay. It never made sense to see how few
32:04
San Diego departures they had. Agreed.
32:05
Like, I think it makes a lot of of
32:08
sense. Um, given how it's an older ship,
32:11
were all of the Magic Band hookups in
32:13
place? So,
32:15
they worked fine for us.
32:16
>> Well, I don't know what that means, per
32:18
se, because our room worked fine. Are
32:21
there supposed to be other ones?
32:22
>> Well, our room worked fine. We used it
32:24
when we were like connecting with things
32:26
or checking into things, when we were
32:28
buying things.
32:29
>> Yeah, we didn't have any issues. I just
32:31
don't know if there's supposed to be
32:32
other places in the ship.
32:33
>> Um, we used them in stores, in bars,
32:36
>> leaving for our port adventure.
32:38
>> Leaving for the port adventure, getting
32:39
back to the port adventure. seem. Yeah,
32:41
I I didn't think there was any uh
32:43
>> any problems with that. How many fish
32:45
extenders did you see on the state room?
32:47
>> Quite a few, actually.
32:48
>> Yeah. Yeah,
32:48
>> quite a few.
32:49
>> There it was great.
32:50
>> Uh we we didn't have a a very long walk
32:53
to our stateateroom and we would
32:55
probably see like one every other door.
32:57
>> The best one was the uh Chewbacca one.
33:01
>> Oh, I liked the bluey one.
33:03
>> Okay, that one too. Um, I was told by a
33:06
travel agent, magic magic band tech is
33:08
on all DCLed ships except for the
33:10
adventure. Interesting.
33:11
>> That would make sense.
33:12
>> That Yeah, there you go. Um, did we try
33:15
to decipher any of the secret nautical
33:17
alphabet flag messages? No, but I had
33:20
them pointed out to me.
33:22
Um, I I think that's something if if and
33:27
when we were to go on these more where
33:28
you didn't feel the need to catch
33:31
everything and you could slow down a
33:33
little bit cuz we were we were going
33:35
going going
33:37
>> um throughout the four days, whatever it
33:39
was. And and so there really wasn't as
33:42
much time to just stop and smell the
33:44
roses as if we'd been on multiple Disney
33:47
cruises where we're like, "Oh, we know
33:49
this. We can expect that." that like
33:51
there was just a lot of discovery
33:52
happening on this cruise. Um, all right,
33:55
next one. Um, November cruises out of
33:58
San Diego. Knowing where we are, what's
34:00
the best way to get down there?
34:03
I almost feel like in your case it might
34:05
be easier
34:08
>> to drive.
34:08
>> To drive.
34:09
>> Yeah.
34:10
>> Just because you're somewhat local and
34:12
like the parking is so simple and and
34:14
like if you're going to end up paying
34:16
for parking either way, you might as
34:18
well just pay for it down there. Yeah.
34:20
>> Um,
34:21
>> and it's so easy.
34:23
>> Yeah, they and there's lots of options,
34:26
so I don't think you're going to run
34:27
out.
34:28
>> Um, what were the hours of the quick
34:30
service dining? So, that's a
34:31
multi-pronged answer because cabanas was
34:35
open at breakfast, closed for a little
34:36
bit, open for lunch, closed a little
34:38
bit, and then
34:39
>> Wind Jammer does it.
34:40
>> Yeah. And then um the place with the
34:44
chicken tenders,
34:45
>> Pete's
34:46
>> Pets
34:46
>> 10 to six
34:47
>> was 10 to six, which was great. And I
34:50
think that was around when the ice cream
34:51
was as well, right?
34:53
>> I believe so.
34:54
>> So generally, for the most part, it was
34:56
during the day.
34:57
>> Yeah.
34:58
>> Um and then you could get room service
35:01
if if you know they're closed. So
35:04
>> there was also Pinocchios for pizza,
35:06
which pretty like
35:07
>> a lot of things ran the same hours, I
35:09
will say. Um, there was a couple things
35:11
that were open later than I was used to
35:14
because first cruise we went on
35:16
together, there was things closing at
35:17
like 900 p.m. And if Disney cruise line
35:21
is having food open later.
35:24
>> There you go. There you go.
35:25
>> Uh, so when are we expecting a DAP's
35:27
cruise together? I think in the future.
35:29
We are we are working on some things to
35:32
figure out the feasibility and the
35:34
logistics of that. And once those are
35:36
are in place and we know exactly what
35:39
that looks like, we will be able to
35:41
figure out how many people we need and
35:44
what that looks like and what's the most
35:45
feasible for that. So, I would say
35:47
sooner rather than later, but not
35:49
tomorrow. Um, how was the trivia? Trivia
35:51
looked fun. I I will say um some of them
35:54
it seemed like they repeated the
35:56
questions on different days. Um I could
35:59
have been wrong on this. It just I was
36:00
like, "Oh, I think I heard this the
36:02
other day." Um, I thought it was cool
36:04
because they had different levels of
36:05
trivia and different types of trivia.
36:07
So, there's there's a lot of different
36:08
options and um,
36:11
>> everybody gets really into trivia.
36:12
>> They did. It was very funny as were some
36:14
of the game shows. Like the game shows
36:16
were were very entertaining as well. Um,
36:20
I've learned through the years that the
36:21
opinions of people on cruises about kids
36:23
are wildly different for the exact same
36:24
See, I think that's totally fair. Yeah.
36:26
>> Um, I I think it's Disneyland. Like,
36:28
it's Disney. What do you expect? Like
36:30
>> it it's great. Um, what movies did we
36:32
watch? None.
36:34
>> Oh, I watched a few. Oh, like bits and
36:37
pieces.
36:37
>> Oh, as we're walking by.
36:39
>> I think again if I to talk about one of
36:40
my core memories, um, we need to get
36:42
that picture from him. There is a
36:44
picture of us eating ice cream cones
36:46
watching Frozen um, when we were still
36:49
in San Diego that Dubbie took.
36:51
>> Oh, I didn't know that. That's funny.
36:52
>> He literally said, "That's the
36:53
quintessential Disney shot." I
36:54
>> I'll have to text him. Okay, that's
36:56
great.
36:56
>> Uh, which was like magical, but I was
36:59
like, I watched Coco. I watched parts of
37:01
Descendants. I watched um Frozen. Uh we
37:06
watched parts of Moana.
37:07
>> The real thing that was happening is
37:09
we'd often be down the deck a little bit
37:11
and I would hear the movie starting and
37:14
say, "This is what it is."
37:16
>> And freak out Katie.
37:17
>> No. The scariest one in the world that
37:19
he did. No dialogue. I think like two
37:22
notes had played and he goes, "Oh,
37:24
they're playing Hercules." And I went,
37:28
"What?" and he goes, "Yeah, they're
37:29
playing Hercules." And then the dialogue
37:31
actually started. He's like, "See, like
37:34
they're" And I was like, "How did you do
37:36
that?"
37:37
>> U, the pin trading looked like it was
37:38
fun. I saw a few people doing it, more
37:40
of like kids and stuff, but um
37:42
>> but it was active and I was surprised.
37:44
>> Yes, it was. People were doing it.
37:46
>> There's also a lot of pins to buy.
37:48
>> Yes. Um any luck with bingo? We did not
37:51
try bingo. We saw it happening several
37:53
times and people were very into it. In
37:56
fact, I would say it was one of the
37:57
busier
37:59
offerings, game offerings that they had
38:02
that um were on the ship.
38:04
>> My favorite was I was heading to a media
38:05
reception and um the directly across was
38:10
the $10,000 bingo draw and there was
38:13
these like probably 19-year-old boys
38:14
that were on the phone with somebody and
38:16
they're like, "We have to go to this.
38:17
It's the $10,000 bingo." And I was like,
38:20
"Okay, okay. I'm just I'm just waiting
38:22
for the pub. That's all I'm waiting
38:24
for." which was also funny because uh we
38:26
were waiting for the media portion of
38:29
that before that reception and uh they
38:32
had it closed off and they're getting
38:33
ready for it, whatever. And uh Dubie and
38:36
I are standing there and these two guys
38:38
that are probably in their early 30s
38:40
come racing around the corner and see
38:43
standing there see the sign blocking it
38:45
off. One of them is holding this massive
38:47
stein and you hear both of them go,
38:49
"Oh." And it was the funniest thing as
38:52
they tried to
38:54
convince us that they should be able to
38:56
go in anyway. And we're like, we don't
38:58
actually care. Like, we're gonna be
39:00
invited in there. Like, it's you'd have
39:04
to talk with whoever's inside and they
39:05
gave up and they went off to bingo. But,
39:07
um, anyway,
39:09
>> I think we're running out of time.
39:10
Katie, what should people do
39:11
>> now? You should go to askmagic.com,
39:13
check out all the Disney and positive
39:14
stuff as it happens. You should
39:16
subscribe to our mailing list so you
39:18
don't miss any of it. We have so much
39:19
coming out about Disney Cruise Line. You
39:21
do not want to miss it. And also go to
39:24
dapshq.com.
39:26
There's a post show to this show.
39:27
There's also a lot more Disney Cruise
39:31
Line stuff that we could even begin to
39:33
start.
39:33
>> Maybe even another video. We'll see. Uh
39:35
yeah, we'll see. Um also make sure to
39:37
subscribe to our YouTube channel. We do
39:38
have a lot of stuff going up from the
39:40
cruise. We will also have a lot of
39:42
Disneyland After Dark, Star Wars night
39:44
stuff, and Star Wars Galaxy's Edge
39:47
expanded timeline, which will be
39:49
starting during Star Wars night tomorrow
39:50
night. And then I will go back out
39:52
bright and early on Wednesday to get
39:55
more coverage. So, um, sleep. It'll be
39:59
just like the cruise. Fantastic.
40:01
>> Anyway, that is all the time we have for
40:03
you this week. We will see you around
40:04
the corner.
40:05
>> Bye.
