‘Coco’ Attraction is Coming to Disney California Adventure, Here’s What is Known

At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, a new attraction based on Disney and Pixar’s Coco was announced during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase. The announcement was made by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, with a little help from Ernesto de la Cruz and some other performers. The musical number and announcement can be seen below. What is Known About the New Coco Attraction

The Premise

“We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way,” Josh D’Amaro shared. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.” The concept of the attraction is that guests will join Miguel to go on a journey to the land of the dead.

The Location and Timing

First off, while a specific location wasn’t shared for where the Coco attraction will be. D’Amaro did reveal which park it will be in. This new attraction will be found in Disney California Adventure. It was also shared that ground will be broken for this attraction in 2026.

About the Coco Attraction

There are some other things known about this attraction as well. Guests will be going on this ride aboard a boat of some kind. Disney has shared that the attraction will draw inspiration from the Haunted Mansion and also Pirates of the Caribbean. The concept art that was shared for the attraction showed guests floating through the land of the dead aboard a boat that looked very similar to those that guests cruise aboard on Pirates of the Caribbean or it’s a small world. The concept art also shows some favorite characters from Coco. This will be a musical attraction that brings the music heard in the movie into the ride in Disney California Adventure.

One of the most exciting things about this attraction is the fact that it will be using advanced audio-animatronics. “We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology,” Josh D’Amaro told the crowd at the Honda Center when the attraction was announced. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.”

Horizons Announcements

This is one of multiple announcements that were made during the Horizons panel that showed Disney leaning into its audio-animatronic technology. It was also announced that a new show is coming to the Opera House at Disneyland that will have an audio-animatronic Walt Disney. It also is an announcement that Disney says is already happening. In fact, every announcement made at Horizons that is moving forward. Josh D’Amaro said, “At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places. And we have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving. I just want to be clear about this: We are doing everything you’re going to hear tonight.”
