Next year will mark the 70th anniversary of The Muppets. Ahead of this milestone, The Muppets announced that they will begin the celebration by spotlighting 70 favorite characters. That isn’t all, however. Fans are also encouraged to be creative and join in the celebration on social media. The Muppets shared how the celebration will begin in a post on social media. The celebration begins on August 23, 2024. Details can be seen below.

The Muppets originally appeared on the television show Sam and Friends in 1955 in Washington D.C. The show was created by Jim Henson, puppeter and creator of The Muppets, and Jane Nebel. Nebel would eventually become his wife. The show included a combination of marionettes and puppets. Henson called them Muppets. The show also included Kermit the Frog. As time went by, The Muppets became popular and would appear in commercials, variety shows, talk shows, Sesame Street, and even Saturday Night Live. They also would appear in their own show, The Muppet Show, and movies.
Recently, a new documentary was released on Disney+. Called Jim Henson Idea Man, this documentary looks at the life of the creator of The Muppets with interviews from some of those who knew them best. It also includes rare clips and pictures that were made available by the Henson family. The film was made by Ron Howard.
Today The Muppets are a beloved part of pop culture and have a dedicated following. They appear most frequently on social media and occasionally make appearances as guests on shows. Many fans wish for a new movie or series from The Muppets but at this point, nothing has been announced.
