Siberian crane sculptures at Shanghai Disney Resort

New Siberian Crane Sculptures Arrive at Shanghai Disney Resort

Three new Siberian crane sculptures have been installed at Shanghai Disney Resort. These sculptures can now be found in Wishing Star Park and debuted ahead of World Migratory Bird Day. The sculptures celebrate the beauty and resilience of the critically endangered cranes that are shown in different stages of flight. The sculptures connect Wishing Star Park and Poyang Lake, which happens to be an important habitat for Siberian cranes. The sculptures help tell the story of these cranes and their conservation. They also showcase the resort’s commitment to nature, while adding something new to discover for guests.

The sculpture is called Magic Along the Flyway. A Siberian Crane Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony was held at Wishing Star Park. It included representatives from the government, the International Crane Foundation (ICF), and nonprofit organizations. Also on hand were the crane sculptures’ artist, local school students and teachers, and Shanghai Disney Resort Cast Members.

Shanghai Disney Resort has been working on creating a collaborative platform that brings together nonprofit organizations and community partners to raise conservation awareness and inspire meaningful action. Shanghai Disney Resort has been actively working on this for a decade. Together, the Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) and the International Crane Foundation (ICF) have helped nearly double the Siberian crane population along the eastern flyway. Linking the resort’s Wishing Star Park (a wintering ground for the cranes) with the Siberian crane habitat at Poyang Lake has been a key priority for both organizations. The sculptures invite guests to learn about crane conservation along with the migration journeys these birds take.

Wishing Star Park serves as a lakeside retreat for hotel guests at Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the new Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel, which is scheduled to open this winter. These new sculptures will add to the park experience, invite guests to slow down, and also appreciate nature while discovering the resort’s conservation efforts during their stay at this magical place.
