A new male African painted dog has joined the pack at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Named Prospect, he is making himself at home. Prospect can be seen by guests who are experiencing the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction. As he made his debut, Disney shared photos of the new resident.

Prospect joins the African painted dog pack, which debuted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2015. They are known for their social hierarchy. The pack also appeared in 2023’s Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Disney+.

The arrival of this new African painted dog comes just days after World Painted Dog Day, which was August 26th. To commemorate the day, the Disney Conservation Fund posted about its two-decade+ efforts to support Painted Dog Conservation. Their mission is to “create an environment where painted dogs can thrive.” According to the post, there are fewer than 7,000 painted dogs left in the world.

About African Painted Dogs
Painted dog packs can range from 2-27 and members of the same sex are closely related to each other, like the ones at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Right now, guests can see “The Brothers” on Kilimanjaro Safaris and even on “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” streaming on Disney+.
Painted dogs are known for being hierarchical and our pack is no different. This dynamic helps the species work together, making them some of the most successful hunters in Africa.
