Movie Nights at Downtown Disney presented by Honda, will continue this Wednesday night with a screening of Disney Maleficent from 2014. This is the second year that these movie nights have been offered. They have proven to be quite popular with both guests at the Disneyland Resort hotels and locals who make the trek for these films.
As a beautiful young woman of pure heart, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) has an idyllic life in a forest kingdom. When an invading army threatens the land, Maleficent rises up to become its fiercest protector. However, a terrible betrayal hardens her heart and twists her into a creature bent on revenge. She engages in an epic battle with the invading king’s successor, then curses his newborn daughter, Aurora — realizing only later that the child holds the key to peace in the kingdom.
Maleficent is a fictional character who first appeared in Disney Animation’s Sleeping Beauty, which was released on January 29, 1959. Maleficent is the self-proclaimed “Mistress of All Evil” based on the wicked fairy character in Charles Perrault’s fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, as well as the villainess who appears in the Brothers Grimm’s retelling of the story, Little Briar Rose. Maleficent was originally animated by legendary animator Marc Davis, who was known for animating lots of the villains many Disney fans know and love.
