Video podcasts are available to watch on Disney+ and Hulu. Last year, Disney+ and Hulu unveiled its slate of video podcasts. These offered fans a chance to continue to engage with some of their favorite series after the programs had ended. Video podcasts were revealed for:
- Only Murders in the Building
- Dancing with the Stars
- Percy Jackson and the Olympians
- Murdaugh: Death in the Family
Each of these podcasts gave fans the chance to get a look behind the curtain and enjoy exclusive cast interviews, episode breakdowns, and the opportunity to keep conversations going after the shows ended.
As time went by, Disney discovered that the podcast offerings became an important part of the show-watching experience for fans. For example, it discovered that 90% of viewers who streamed the Tell Me Lies companion podcast also watched every episode of Season 3.
Disney is very deliberate about this strategy. It hand-picks podcasts that will resonate with fans and reflect the genres that they care the most about. The library of video podcasts has grown quite a bit. It now includes more than just companion shows. There are licensed rewatch, comedy, true crime, news, and sports shows now found on Disney+ and Hulu. Disney shared on Tuesday that in the next few months, the library of video podcasts will double in size!
Disney revealed a preview of what some of these new video podcasts will be. First off, two new Headgum podcasts premiere today exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu. They will stream weekly before they become available on any other platforms. Best Friends will see Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata coming together weekly to hang out. This is a podcast that is built on their real-life friendship. Another podcast with Miles Bonsignore called Perfect Person will see listener dilemmas worked through with a focus on empathy over authority.
Pat Rogers and Conor McCarthy recently debuted ABC News first original video podcast. Exclusive to Disney+ and Hulu, The Scream Murder: A True Teen Horror Story Podcast is based on the Hulu documentary and looks deeper into the killing of Idaho teenager Cassie Stoddart.
Looking forward, these will be joined by FX’s American Horror Story Official Podcast this Thursday and iHeartPodcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald on October 1. This is when both podcasts will stream on Hulu for the first time.
