Recently, during the Nightmares Revealed event, fans got a look at what is coming this year for Knott’s Scary Farm. Daps Magic was invited by Knott’s Berry Farm to cover this event. Following the main presentation on the Calico Mine Stage, there was a panel that gave a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind the mazes for Knott’s Scary Farm. This included the two newly announced mazes. The panel was made up of Producer Christopher Do sits down with Art Directors Jon Asperin and Daniel Miller. The trio has a depth of knowledge and experience in the realm of frightful fun at Knott’s.
In the panel, they share how the creative teams at Knott’s Berry Farm brought these original terrifying worlds to life for the two new mazes: Inked and Unearthed. These mazes bring the worlds and horrors from ancient Mesopotamian deities to corrupted 1930s animation to life this Halloween season. Highlights of the Panel
- “Unearthed” Breakdown: Art Director John Asper details the story of Site 74 in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, where search-and-rescue teams awaken the ancient, fabled Anunnaki and monstrous Nephilim giants.
- Gross-Out Character Designs: A look at conceptual sketches and behind-the-scenes sculpting for “Bones” (a giant who feeds on his prisoners and himself) and “Half Eaten” in the Lair of the Scarab.
- Artisans & Animatronics: Behind-the-scenes footage highlighting the master welders, prop leads, carpenters, and painters crafting the creatures and sets.
- “Inked” Concept: Art Director Daniel Miller explains the lore behind Mortimer Morbid’s 1930s rubber-hose animation studio, where blood corrupts classic cartoon characters into grotesque monsters.
- Original Cartoon & Progression: How the team created original 1930s-style animation using Adobe Animate and developed the transition from black-and-white to a fully realized, terrifying color world inside the maze.
Admission to Knott’s Scary Farm can be purchased on the Six Flags website. Knott’s Scary Farm will be running on select nights between September 17 and October 31, 2026.
