On this day in 2001, the first major pin trading festival, “Pins Around Our World,” kicked off at EPCOT’s World Showcase. Disney’s official pin trading program began at Walt Disney World in 1999 during EPCOT’s Millennium Celebration. Pin trading soon became a global phenomenon, spreading to all Disney Parks. Guests of the 4-day festival had access to over 30 new limited-edition pins exclusive to the event, averaging in price between $8.50 and $15. They could also take part in pin artist meet-and-greets and pin signings. [25 years ago in 2026]
