On this day in 1916, actor and voice artist Hal Smith was born. He started his career as a radio DJ and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Smith took over the voice roles of Goofy, Grumpy, and Sleepy from Pinto Colvig after his death. He voiced Owl in Winnie the Pooh and also assumed the role of Pooh after Sterling Holloway retired. Other Disney roles included Philippe the horse in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and Gyro Gearloose and Flintheart Glomgold in ‘DuckTales.’ Fans of classic TV will remember Smith as Otis from ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’ [110 years ago in 2026]
