On this day in 1956, the Disneyland Hotel hosted its official grand opening gala. Although the hotel first welcomed guests in October 1955, there were only eight rooms open at the time, contrasted with the 204 available the following August. The opening ceremony and ribbon cutting were conducted by co-owners Jack Wrather and Helen Alvarez in the presence of Walt Disney and many Hollywood stars of the day. The exclusive guests dined on a banquet, took part in dancing and hotel tours, and observed the Disneyland Band marching through the lobby! [70 years ago in 2026]
