This year marks the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Ahead of this annual tradition, Macy’s and Disney have announced a collaboration and also a new addition to the parade. Disney’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey will be making his magical debut as an all-new giant character balloon. He will soar through the skies of New York City during the centennial Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Ahead of this milestone parade, the balloon’s reveal took place at Downtown Disney District as a surprise offering for fans attending the D23 Day at the Disneyland Resort.

The balloon is inspired by Mickey Mouse’s iconic role in Disney’s Fantasia. This is a look that has been a favorite for fans ever since. Today, Mickey can often be seen with this look in Fantasmic when the powers of his imagination are on full display at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The balloon will mark the latest chapter in Disney’s years-long history with the Parade. This goes back to 1934 when Mickey Mouse was the first Disney character balloon to take flight.

On top of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey balloon and 100 years of Parade magic, a new Disney capsule collection is being launched by Macy’s. This will feature fashion, accessories, and collectible keepsakes that are inspired by this Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey balloon. The collection will be available starting today, August 13th, and include items from brands that include Citizen, Crocs, Hallmark, Loungefly, Super Smalls, Swarovski, and more.

The initial launch will include only part of the collection, with the full collection launching this fall. The full collection features over 100 items inspired by the wonder of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and favorite Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters that have made appearances in the Parade through the years.
