Toy Story 5 has reached an impressive milestone at the global box office. This weekend, the newest film in the original Pixar franchise passed $1 billion at the global box office. With the film passing this milestone, it is also the top-grossing film of the year. As of this weekend, the film has earned $448 million domestically and $573 million internationally. This puts it at $1.022 billion, as of Sunday.
The film is now the third movie to pass the $1 billion mark at the global box office in 2026. The others include The Super Mario Galaxy Movie with $1.001 billion and Michael with $1.001 billion. The Odyssey is also steaming towards this milestone as well. After two weekends in theaters, it has already earned $639.6 million. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day releasing this week, it is very possible that it will also be joining this $1 billion club in 2026 as well.
2026 is looking to have the most films reach the $1 billion mark since before the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, in 2019, nine films surpassed this mark. During 2020, no films reached this level. In 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home was the only film to reach it. The following year, three films passed $1 billion. They were Avatar: The Way of Water, Top Gun: Maverick, and Jurassic World Dominion. In 2023, Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie were the only two films to pass this mark. The next two years each had three films pass this milestone. 2026 has already matched that.
The next milestone for Toy Story 5 to reach will be the top spot in the Toy Story franchise. This will be done when it surpasses Toy Story 4 and its $1.07 billion earnings. This fifth film in the franchise is the third one to pass the $1 billion mark, and also to build on the success of its predecessor. Toy Story 3 was the first film to do this and earned $1.06 billion.
