A new documentary from Kevin MacLean is set to be talked about at San Diego Comic-Con. Beyon Godolphin: The Hank Jones Story looks at the life and career of Hank Jones, who appeared in Blackbeard’s Ghost, Herbie Rides Again, The Shaggy D.A., No Deposit No Return, and The Cat From Outer Space. Along with appearing in these Disney live-action movies, Jones was also known as a singer.
Hank Jones appeared in an era of Hollywood where Walt Disney’s live-action comedies dominated the box office. During this time, Hank Jones was a foundational face of that golden era. He captured hearts in these beloved classic films. Along with appearing in these Disney films, he also appeared on early television staples, including My Three Sons.
In Beyond Godolphin, viewers will get to see past the fictional Disney movie setting that was Godolphin College and discover the man behind the characters who came to life behind the screen. The documentary includes exclusive interviews and rare footage as it bridges the gap between classic Hollywood history and modern Disney artistry.
For those who are attending San Diego Comic-Con, there will be a screening of the film on July 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Marriott Marquis, Ballroom 6. The movie will film will also be shown at The Burbank Museum / Gordon R. Howard Museum on July 25, 2026. This will include a live post-film Q&A with director Kevin MacLean and renowned Disney historian Jim Fanning.
